To: Liverpool FC Shareholders
George Gillett and Tom Hicks,
This petition is on behalf of all those who feel that Rafael Benitez must continue as Liverpool manager with the full backing of the board. Benitez is Liverpool's best manager since Bob Paisley and is irreplaceable, no matter how much money you are willing to invest in another manager.
In three seasons Benitez has taken Liverpool to two Champions League finals, a League Cup final and an FA Cup final, and is now beginning to challenge for a Premier League title, something Liverpool fans have craved for a long time.
Relieving him of his duties would almost certainly have a detrimental effect on the club. We would have to find a new manager, who will need time to adapt and recruit new players that suit his style, which could cost years of progress. And, despite all of this, he is still unlikely to be as tactically astute as Benitez.
The European transfer market is different to that in the USA, and the process of signing players can take months. Addressing the issues a few weeks before the transfer window opens is not good enough and could lose us a player who may end up making the difference between us finishing first and second.
Benitez is a huge asset to Liverpool, more so than any player, and any club in the world would be delighted to have him in charge of their team. If you truly are behind this club, and you want to bring us success as much as you say you do, then you will understand how important this issue is.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned

PS. I disagree with Rafa going public with his views in the manner he did (repeating the same answer 13 times in a press conference is not clever) although I understand his point of view. This kind of business should be done behind closed doors, not in public. Rafa has dug himself a very big, deep hole...
He has left himself wide open to face the bullet, I hope for the sake and Liverpool Football Club and himself Hicks and Gillete show mercy and realise Rafa is the man to guide Liverpool to further and continued success.
