      That F***ing Endrick c**t!!!!!!!!

Convinced now we need to buy another CB in January.

Gomez scared the sh*t out of me tonight and

Quansah, just not at that level we require.

Hope Ibou has some sort of miraculous recovery.

Yeah you notice the difference big time.

Joe and Quansah both have this terrible habit of back tracking when a player is running at them.

Ibou snuffs that sh*t out before they get close enough to cause any sort of threat.

Gomez and Quansah both invite pressure on our Defence.

Agreed but we should have adequate cover, never going to get through as many games in a season, Slot must feel the rest arenā€™t good enough or he would rotate. Hence look at the difference when one of the main two are out, Gomez ok not to bad but Quansah isnā€™t good enough for the big games. Weā€™re playing League games, Caribou games Champions league games and FA cup games, with 2 main centre backs ā€¦impossible WE WILL BE FOUND SHORT AGAIN

Hope is to jan and then hopefully buy a quality cb, I donā€™t understand why we didnā€™t buy one before as we are all saying it for a reason! Now itā€™s obvious

All seems to be quiet, I wonder if he is back soon

I thought Gomez was alright. Apart one a couple of players, the majority of the team were under par. So not gonna start slagging Joe considering how F***ing good he was against City.

      Konate still makes silly errors!!

I'm on about that thing he does sometimes where he chase a player and can be caught out of position.

Tbh with the amount of games we've had recently, you can imagine a little bit of tiredness crept into that Newcastle performance.

Gomez was ace against City but he isn't someone you can rely on for consistency - this is clear, look great one game then shocking the next.....only solidified the doubts I've always had about him.....especially at CB.

Just hope we don't lose too many more points in Ibou's absence.

The game against City was much easier than against Newcastle.

We would have still struggled with Konate in defence at Newcastle. Virgil was directly in front of Isak when he scored. There was little Virgil could do. For their second, Grav didn't pick up the runner in midfield, who as a result was able to play the ball through to Gordon to score (though Kelleher could (should) have done better. And the third, free kick from 50 yards out which Kelleher misreads and leaves, allowing them to score.

The two CB were not the issue. The issue was the flaky midfield getting overrun. Winning midfield, which Newcastle (with Tonali and the two Brazilians) did up to about 60, means more chances created. They had 17 shots to our 16. In the City game with Joe we faced 9 shots, as we gave their nonexistant midfield the runaround. We had the legs/energy of Dom agaunst City, we didn't for an hour at Newcastle, and it showed.

If there is one thing that should have been learned from the 2022-23 season it is that the midfield is the most influential area on the field. If it crumbles, as ours did with the over the hill Fabinho/Hendo, the defence (no matter who is there) have no chance. To go further back, the first half in Istanbul, we had the CB pairing of Hyypia and Carra who in the previous three knockout rounds vs Leverkusen, Juventus and Chelsea had conceded 3 goals in 6 games. After 45 minutes in Istanbul, with the midfield getting carved open with no Hamann at DM to cut out their runs/passes, that same CB pairing had conceded 3 goals.

To ram home the significance of the midfield, the 2020-21 season, when we lost all our senior CB (and inexplicably didn't act in the transfer window), JĆ¼rgen moved Fabinho and Hendo (both then performing to a high level) out of midfield into defence, and we went on a 6 game home losing streak. JĆ¼rgen put them back in midfield, and we went on title winning form, with Rhys Williams (now of 4th tier Morecambe) and Nat Phillips (now of 2nd tier Derby) as the CB pairing.

Excellent once up to speed however itā€™s always the same with him, he takes 3-4 games to get back up to speed then will be a world beater for about 10 games before he is injured again.

      Rinse and repeat.

Needs to give it a rest with wanting to initiate contact with strong number 9 types.

Just close the space. Nobody really cares for this rutting stag type battle thing he does.

A battle he lost by the way.

Yeah Solanke runs and runs and has now fully developed into a very powerful man.

As a rule with players like that you don't want to get too tight to them because they'll bounce off you.

Ibou thinks he's that guy and at times he is. But he has to know his players. Solanke is more than a match for him physically.

My first reaction to the goal was why Alli isn't out sweeping that at the edge of his box with a high starting position he took up. Ends up backing away towards his goal. If Konate isn't there I think he comes and gets there before Solanke but he ends up leaving it to him in the end.

Not so much bullied off it, Solanke just outwitted him....Ibou misread the flight/bounce....couldn't put the brakes on before it was too late and it gave Solanke an easy option with the inside pass, only other time I noticed him was when he was being overly aggressive and giving a foul away stupidly on the sideline. Would he even have been used had Quansah not caught the shits? Who knows. It is what it is.
