No more St. Etienne/Olympiakos nights for us,

I didn't think away goals counted in the group stage anyway!!

They've always counted in the group stage. The 3 goals after half time meant we beat  Olympiakos 3-2 on aggregate, so we got out of the group.

Now that they have gone, it's made it that bit harder to separate teams on the same points and goal difference. Extra time and penalties are not very easy to arrange if the teams are not playing each other in the last group game.

This reminds me of the decision to close the summer transfer window early, because in theory it made sense. It was so bad in practice, it had to be reversed after just two years. The bus parkers just have more incentive to sit there and play for 0-0 draws and penalties. Let's see how long people are willing to sit through 2 hours of that every couple of weeks.

Should have just removed it for extra time.

Was always unfair that the away team in the second leg got a possible 30 minutes more for an away goal compared to the home team.

      Agree.

Since when did away goals count in league games. There was no aggregate score in the Olympiakos game. Just that due to goal difference and results against we had to win the game by two clear goals. So absolutely nothing to do with away goals.

Wrong, you mean knockout stages. If they existed in group games why not have them in Prem games?

No I meant group stages as well as the knockout stages, for the reasons I've already outlined.

They counted in EPL games last season, in the event of goal difference and goals scored  unable to separate teams level on points in the table. It was never needed to separate teams at the end of the season. Now the away goals are gone from all forms of the game and I absolutely hate it. It just means more defensive football and more extra times to be played, as seen this week at Shakhtar Donetsk v Monaco to decide who got the last spot in the group stage.

Our schedule has now been confirmed and maybe because it's the beginning of the new TV contracts, but the format is radically different to the group stage in previous seasons, and there is a new ko time for the early games, albeit all our group games start at the usual time.

      v Milan (h)
      v Porto (a)
      v Atletico (a)
      v Atletico (h)
      v Porto (h)
      v Milan (a)

      Sequence: Wednesday-T-T-W-W-Tuesday

Hopefully we'll wrap it up with 1 game to go, but I think this group is going to the wire and we're not at home when it is.

FFS Ronaldo is going to be huge for United, he's just lethal, hasn't touched the ball and then he does and its in the net.

Hell be the difference for them in the games they should win. He could very well be like Van Persie - one season booster shot towards the title.

But against the top sides, I sense his lack of kilometres during matches may cause a bit of immobility, proving problematic against teams/systems that press and charge about all over the field.

Basically, what I'm saying is that when Liverpool come up against Man Utd, we're going to tear you lot apart Keith.  ;)

He doesn't look fit... he reminds me of when Hazard was just a slight few pounds heavier than usual at the beginning of each season and his game completely went. (not the time he came back obese for Real)

Not sure that's the case. I've openly said I've never seen him have a good game for England. Still yet to see anything like what everyone was buzzing about.

Always had that in his locker with the diving tackles he so often does.

I think you guys needed a rapid winger, I just don't think Sancho has the speed to be a successful winger for United, he's a bit slow, with a slower brain.
