No Firmino last night, and Minamino not used as coming back from injury.

Elliott injured and Virgil not used.

      Mane on the bench.

Still beat them and with a bit more concentration before half time could have been a much bigger scoreline.

Squad depth is there whether you want to see it or not.

Jones was the one I expected to kick on,
but then (before his injury) Elliott started 3 PL games on the bounce.

So frustrating for the young lad. (Elliott)
Opportunity for Jones now to lay down a marker.

Very far from what I’m hearing… that our squad is getting old.

For me Gomez continues to disappoint. I still think he's a bench player. He reminds me of Lindelof as he also doesn't get in me first 11. You still need another CB to join VVD

No way last nite do you concede 2 goals if VVD plays.

It was his first competitive game for nearly 12 months and wasn’t at fault for either goal 🙄

I’ll take Gomez over Maguire all day long

And as for a second CB - Matip is showing himself to be the second best CB in the Prem

      Matip says Hi.

We've signed a lad and Matip is keeping him out of the team.
When he's fit Matip is perfect in beside van Dijk.

I thought we were slightly light up front but I'll gladly see where it's going with
Elliott and Jones if that's the plan.

As long as there is enough players for two starting elevens you'll always get by, wouldn't mind a new attacker mind just to freshen it up a bit and to let them bed in before the inevitable happens and one of the big three up front goes, but even with Bobby and Harvey out we can line up...

      League + Big UCL Games:

                     Allison
      Trent - Matip - Virgil - Robbo
                    Fabinho
               Hendo - Thiago
            Salah - Jota - Mane

      Cup games:

                      Kelleher
      Neco - Gomez - Konate - Tsikimas
                  Milner - Keita
             Taki - Oxlade - Jones
                       Origi

       So yeah, not too bad.

The fixtures until the next international break line up pretty well with regards to squad rotation. I'd expect to see something like this:

      Palace H (PL): Full strength
      Norwich A (LC): Mass rotation
      Brentford A (PL): Full strength
Porto A (CL): Some rotation (similar to Milan game)
Man City H (PL): Full strength

Fortunately the results from the first round of CL games put us in a great position to rotate a little bit against Porto with one eye on the City game.

We're a few weeks into the season and we've played 1 CL match.
So will probably be 6 or 7 months before we know how the lack of signings worked out.

Who knows but it would take an injury crisis such as last season to seriously weaken us.

I honestly think it's underestimated what a group of players we have here and it's purely based on last season's freak injury list

Agree mate, I like the fact we are being under stated to the point now where we hardly get mentioned except for token gestures, Trevor Sinclair for example believe’s we’ll be in a dog fight with Leicester for 4th/ 5th, Gaby Agbonlahor (what did he win ?) reckons we won’t finish above 5th, it seems since Cr7 arrived it’s a straight fight between MUtants and their noisy neighbours but everyone else thinks Chavs are nailed on to retain the CL,

Suits us if they are foolish enough to disregard our chances, we know different  of course, let them carry on, the proof will be in the pudding, personally I think it’s a three horse race with us Chavs & City, at a push I’d say Chavs are slight favourites, but despite their millions spent I believe we’ll be right in amongst it in May !!

Kills me when I hear the `oh but what if Liverpool get Injuries to the star forwards`. Well FFS can say that about every team. Aye ok, Man city might be able to put 3 teams out, but none are the at the level of the 1st choice guys. Even Cheatski, they have a few top strikers, take 2 or 3 out of that and they are not so good anymore.

Last season was a freak, never have I ever know a season where every player in a certain position was injured (long term) at the same time. Just a freak season.

Its normal for all players to be injured at some point for a few games here or there, our squad is good enough to cover normal injuries.

Fair bit more rotation at this stage of the season then you normally see from Jürgen.

With a host of changes expected again midweek it stands us in good stead that players are getting a break early on.

All good and very normal. Looks like the players outside of the first 11 are more ready than ever to step up without compromising work rate and intensity, which gives him more confidence to rotate more. The Palace game just proved this.

Definitely. I was a little bit nervous yesterday seeing that defence as it's a back 4 that had never been played together. But they got through it well. Jürgen has managed the past week to perfection. Easy choice in the midweek game against Norwich too - just play the youngsters along with those first teamers who haven't had a run out this season.

Connor Bradley and kade gordon not involved with the under 23's is an indication they may be involved at Norwich
