Second biggest managerial position in football?
      Sep 07, 2021 02:35:15 pm
The idea behind this topic came from this...

He's had another years experience at the biggest job in football

Our Manchester resident mistakenly claiming Ole's position at United to be the biggest managerial job in football. Obviously, we all know there is only one position worthy of the title. One that is currently occupied by a funny German who recently lost his glasses.

However, it did get me thinking. What do you think is the second biggest managerial job in world football...? Taking into account expectations, fanbase, history and prestige of the club, etc.

United? They have the fanbase and prestige, so they certainly have a claim.
Real Madrid? Even larger fanbase, and trophy cabinet. But is the club more interested in the players than the manager?
      Barcelona? Same as Madrid.
Chelsea? They sack their manager every other year...
City? Arguably the most powerful club right now, but no prestige whatsoever.
      Paris? Similar to City.
      Juventus?
      Bayern?
      Boca?
      ...

      And what about national teams?
England? Comes with the massive expectations of a very unforgiving nation.
      Brazil? The football's country.
      Argentina?
      Italy?
      ...

I'm interested to hear your thoughts on this.

(By the way, I know you funny lot will say Liverpool Ressies, Academy and so on, so I'll go right ahead and say they don't count!  xxxxx:action-smiley-065: Boo me if you will!  ;D)

I'd say Real Madrid job is probably the biggest all things considered and then likely United is second biggest. Which is funny since United have appointed such a slack ass manager.

Funny you mention International managers there. Remember for a few years in the 00s when the likes of Ferguson and Mourinho gave serious consideration to the role after both receiving formal offers. Absolutely no chance managers of that stature would even entertain the idea of becoming England manager these days, but it did appear to have quite the pull a decade or so ago.

Ferguson has already done the national role with the jocks in 86 after Jock Stein's death.

Fair comment. But it can still happen: Germany did manage to pry Flick away from Bayern...

Why is Real or utd bigger then Barce or Liverpool?

Why is the England job bigger or more pressured then Argentina?

Don't really think you call it pry, seemed to be all pre-arranged, don't forget he was only a stand-in coach at Bayern
