Liverpool 3-2 AC Milan: In game and Post Match discussion
      Sep 15, 2021 06:41:11 pm

      Anfield hosting UCL with fans

Starting XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Gomez, Robertson, Fabinho, Henderson, Keita, Jota, Salah, Origi.

Subs: Adrian, Kelleher, Van Dijk, Konate, Thiago, Milner, Mane, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jones, Minamino, Tsimikas, Phillips.

Joe Gomez makes his first start of the season in Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League opener with AC Milan at Anfield tonight.

The centre-back is named in the Reds’ starting XI for the first time for a competitive fixture since November 2020 after recovering from knee surgery.

Gomez is one of four changes Jürgen Klopp makes from the weekend win at Leeds United, with Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and Divock Origi also coming into the line-up.

Virgil van Dijk, Thiago Alcantara and Sadio Mane are on the bench, while Harvey Elliott is ruled out due to the ankle injury sustained at Elland Road.

Why is Virgil on bench i don't understand. Giroud can hurt us when he comes on 2nd half. COYR!

A couple of question marks over the line up, why we’ve opted for Origi is beyond me.

Half expected a bit of a change in the defence but thought it would be the expense of Matip, but understandable given the injury Virgil had.

Well he is coming off major injury, so i can see that being the reason to give him rest.

I totally agree with klopp resting VVD and I expect Matip to be rested in the weekend.

Come on Reds. Let's do this and have a good foundation for the UCL other matches.

Probably something to do with rupturing his ACL and being out for 8 months, then having played our first 4 games and 2 of the 3 international matches too in the space of about 5 weeks.

Klopp fooled us all. Still a strong lineup and the bench is freaking good too.

      Cmon the redmen.

If there was a change to the attack I expected it to have been Jones or Ox, going for Origi is definitely unexpected.

Didn't expect Origi to be in the starting line-up, Would have preferred Minamino to start ,he looked good pre-season ,Our bench looks good though ,some great options there for Jürgen

Origi loves UCL so why not.

We only needed to buy another attacking option because we have a strong squad.

Origi has surprised a lot of people on many occasions he's been drawn in from out of nowhere, including several Merseyside derby's, a hattrick in a 6-1 win away against Southampton in the cup, Barcelona, Spurs in the CL final, and the season opener in 2019/20 where he got 2 goals (albeit one was listed as an OG). Hope he can be a positive surprise again.

Expected a few changes, but didn't see Divock coming !! Says something about AOC and Taki when he comes in ahead of them. Gives us something unpredictable - so unpredictable not sure we can predict it either :)
Big game for Gomez to come straight into, fingers crossed for the lad.
Really looking forward to this one, COYRs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
