Morton has been quietly very good since he came on.

He's quality isn't he, another good prospect coming from the academy,  Morton, Gordon, Bradley,  Elliott,  are names that will roll off your tongue in the not too distant future,  the tip of the iceberg is emerging from Kirby, but i don't see the same from the City academy nor any in fact from any other EPL club !!

Was about to post this. They were really impressive tonight!

I know Taki scored 2 goals, but I'll give my MOTM to Gomez. Our worthy captain of the night.

      Minamino MOTM for me.

Two goals, different positions in the game and showing he's a real option for us.

Mention to Morton as he gave the midfield the bit of composure it was missing in the first half

I know it's crazy to look past Taki's contribution tonight, but I thought Konate was absolutely brilliant. MOM.

      Many positives today.

Taki MOTM for me but Gomez and Konate had a great game as well. Kelleher very good making up for his mistake on that penalty save and great coming off his line.

Gordon very promising and Morton really surprised me with his skill and composure.

      Divock with a strong game.

Kostas with his magic wand again.

Only negative I’d say was Ox not really shining when given this opportunity.

Have to say, I enjoyed that a lot more than I was expecting.

Excellent runout for not just the squad but also some of the young lads. Nice mix of experience and youth.

Not sure it could have gone much better. Can't wait for City/Chelsea away next round.

About as good a performance you could expect, delighted with that. Fun to hear the Luis Suarez song being sung!

Watching the emergence of young talented players is why I enjoy the league cup so much. Gordon looks like a proper diamond (to borrow the words of Pep Lijnders), creating something unexpected everytime he's on the ball.

45 minutes is a small sample size, but on tonight's evidence we already have the long-term heir for Fabinho as the No.6 in Morton. He was so composed on the ball, smart in positioning, and Roy Keane-esque with his attitude and commitment in tackles. Loved watching that, and hope he starts in the next league cup game regardless of who we get drawn against.

      Comfortable win :)
CBs were really good on the night, Kelleher too. Bradley did OK for 1st match, Kostas again showing good delivery, Robbo looked a little rusty when he came on.
Jones did well, Keita was fine while on. AOC can't play CM, Jürgen moved him up in the 2nd half, got a bit more ball but didn't do much. That young lad Morton who came on looked neat and tidy, impressed, took up good positions for a CM and made himself available, I'd have him ahead of AOC even it's it was a PL match.
Up front, not much interplay with the front 3, but Origi was clinical with his chance, and Taki was quiet in the game .. except for 2 well taken goals that is :) Gordon did fine.
Pick of the kids though was Morton, just imho.
      Gave Gomez MOTM.

Thought Norwich were poor, and even when had chances up front completely messed them up.

Anyway, another win keeps the momentum going :)

Klopp is a great coach. Some players it takes longer than others but it nearly always works. Looks a different player this season to when he joined.

Hate to negative after a win, the the performance of Morton showed how far the Ox is from the first team.

Hard to look past Minamino for MOTM with his clinical finishing. 2 shots, 2 on target, and 2 goals. Clinical.

That said, Morton was my MOTM for the 2nd half. Looks like a seasoned veteran already, akin to bringing on a Henderson or Milner to help close the game down. Morton did just that.

Konate and Gomez were also especially impressive. I'd imagine that they get to start together against Porto next week as well. Awesome that we have two fantastic defensive CB partnerships to rotate for the PL and CL.

Always got to look where you can improve and I think even Ox would say he had a mare tonight and he's not come back from injury the best. He was lucky to stay on for the 90 so Jürgen is giving him the chance but he was overshadowed by the youngsters who didn't look out of place.

What I was impressed with is how the debutants played as though they'd been here for ages, none of them looked out of place,  ok a couple of errors here and there but seasoned pro's make errors too,
This is testament to the work been done at the academy since Jürgen came in, only 6 yrs in and his legacy is there for all to see,  from Trent to the lads who played tonight they all seem to fit very comfortably into the system,  of course not everyone will make it but they will be better players and better human beings if and when they leave for pastures new,  name me another club that offers the opportunity to young boys & girls aspiring to make it in the professional game ? Only Ajax springs to mind!

It's a shame, but it looks to me that Ox has become a pace merchant with very little else. Perhaps he could still work well in a team using him as a wingback or right midfielder in a 442 due to his pace and crossing, but he doesn't seem well suited to this team anymore at all.

In the first half he had a 65% pass completion rate which is frankly unacceptable. He went a period from around the 30 minute mark to the end of the half where he lost the ball every single time he had it. He needs to be told to stop trying to run with the ball everytime with his head down, and instead use some IQ and make a smart and simple pass.

He looked better on the wing where he had more freedom to run onto balls down the line, but he's probably not going to stay at the club beyond his current contract at this rate.

Sums up why so important to go deep in cups would never get the chance to see the likes of Gordon and Morton again if not as they will not feature in league barring an injury crisis

As Morton should. This is an opportunity for him to prove himself while Keita doesn’t have to prove anything and is looking to Saturday’s game. He’s probably the only starter today that will start against Brentford.

LMAO Naby has everything to prove, not seen a single £55M performance yet………

Apparently Keita went off due to a slight injury from kicking the ground. Couldn’t make it up.
