Fullest strongest X1 possible tonight, if Trent hasnā€™t travelled then Millie gets his slot, Iā€™d be tempted to play Joe & Virgil and Robbo is well capable of playing three full on matches on the bounce although it would be no surprise or disappointment if Kostas plays,

Henderson has to be in there also with Fabinho and Naby probably will take the last midfield slot, Salah Bobby & Mane up top with Jota on the bench, any sort of result will suit , canā€™t honestly seeing them beat us although they did well V Atleti, a win would almost guarantee a place in the KO but not ye ready to put my house on it,

Be ecstatically happy with a scrappy 0-1 win as I would with a 0-3 thumping, but a draw wouldnā€™t be a bad turn out either,

      0-2 Mighty Redmen

      Literally missing the point entirely.

You say that was our first choice back 5 but it was only the 3rd time theyā€™ve all started this season which is less than 50% of the games so far, the last time was vs Leeds. In the 4 games that have followed that we have changed the CBā€™s alone in each of the games and have conceded 5 goals in those 4 games as well as a penalty that was luckily saved.

This is before we even take into account that the full backs have been changed too.

Last season we were shipping goals because we were changing the defence every game. Yes there were mitigating circumstances, before you mention the injuries. But, we became more solid when we stuck with the same defence; TAA, Kabak, Phillips and Robbo. Why? Because there was a consistency there and we werenā€™t chopping and changing every 5 minutes.
City for example, up until last season were chopping and changing their defence from one game to the next and were leaking goals. Then they set on Walker, Stones, Dias and Cancelo for a period of time and became rock solid, much like this season too but mainly Laporte instead of Stones. Their defence isnā€™t better than ours, it cost more but itā€™s not better in terms of individual ability, but they have such a strong understanding from playing together most weeks and they are currently better as a collective.

If you think thereā€™s not been too much rotation thatā€™s fine, but donā€™t try passing it off with the success of the league and CL wins because they were over a season ago now, 3 members of that defence played virtually no football for near on a year so what happened in the past is irrelevant now. Just like having to get their match sharpness back individually, they need to get the understanding and the cohesion back too as a collective.

I donā€™t think itā€™s being unreasonable to say we should choose a defence line up and stick with it for a fair few games and gradually introduce the changes. There is plenty of football to be played, plenty of time for them all to get their chances. Itā€™s a fair shout, no?

I'd agree with you usually, consistency is always preferred, but with Virg, Gomez and Matip all coming off long lay offs I do think they need to be managed properly.

Also the problems defensively against Brentford were not just down to the defenders, I think we were poor off the ball all over the pitch.

A win away from home would set us up nicely going into a very difficult run of games after international break which include the two vs Athletico. I know we have had recent success away to Porto but still be a tough place to play we will need to be at our best.

As far as line-up tough call but I can see more changes rolling and maybe see Klopp go with

I fancy us, the brentford game was a kick up the arse for the defence especially.

went for a 3-0 to the mighty reds.

There is zero chance JĆ¼rgen will do this, but here's my take:

      Ali
      Gomez Konate VVD Kostas
      Milly Fab Jones
      Origi Bobby Taki

I very much dislike Gomez at right back, but he needs the game time, and that would give Konate a chance to play alongside VVD.
If the game goes our way, we could take VVD and Milly off around the hour, and bring Neco in while switching Gomez to the centre.

Good point. Although the CB's take the most blame for 3 goals against, I thought the biggest issue was our inability to win the 2nd balls after aerial challenges. Matip and Van Dijk would normally challenge for and win the initial headers, but the ball would drop into pockets between the CB's and our midfielders, and our midfielders simply didn't pick enough of those balls up.

This was an easy problem to see and even I suggested at halftime to drop Henderson deeper into a 4231 to get another body closer to the CB's and Fabinho to help in that area. Klopp eventually did this but with a weird timing when Jones gave us the lead again. I suspect that we'd have done a lot better with winning second balls had we had Keita on the pitch as that is one of his strengths.

Unfortunate no Trent for this game. Club has been quiet about it so hopefully is just precautionary and heā€™s ready for the weekend.

My guess is Milly fills in at RB.

F**k me, I couldn't tell you anything about those matches from last season - bar a few bits from the Madrid game and the fact Jota scored a hatful against Atalanta.

Had no idea we even played Midtylland. What the f**k happened there? 😂

That Real Madrid game was so sh*t, they always do us

That game was so frustrating. Not that we played well but all 3 goals were basic individual errors. No one pressed Modric who had all day and launched the long pass for the first, Trent with the unbelievable header to put the Real player through when the easy play was to clear it out for a throw in. Then Fab gets skinned and Alisson poor covering his near post for the 3rd. Just terrible.

I'd imagine they'd want to make it a tighter match than when we battered them there in 2018 and 2019.
