Why Kopp didn't make bulk substitutions and inject some life during that lethargic 2nd half is puzzling.

Should have taken Firmino off earlier.  I know Jota's got a bit of a record of an impact player but 12 minutes for him and 3 for Minamino is pushing it a bit.

Having said all that Brighton are a decent side.  Not decent enough that we shouldn't have finished them off at 2-0 but they deserved the point.

That’s not the issue, the issue is how easily we are drawing these games after having the lead and the amount of goals we are letting in. Drawing to Brighton after being 2-0 up at home is unacceptable, no two ways about it, it just simply shouldn’t be happening.

Agreed. We really missed Fab, Thiago and Milly today to keep us solid in midfield. Ox and Curtis are good players but they won't dominate a midfield.

Felt like token gesture changes IMO.

Just hope this game will be our poorest this season .Thiago and Fabinho obviously are our best midfield pairing because they give confidence to the defence and create opportunity going forward ,when they both are injured we really are frail in midfield! I hope the young players like Morton are given the chance to learn and train with them to hit the ground running when their chance comes ....on to the next game !

Obviously players missing from that position but our failure to try different systems isn’t helping. We could easily have taken Jones off today for Matip and gone for a set up like the Chavs are successfully deploying.
As great as Klopp is, he is far too stubborn when it comes to changing formation. We stick to the 4-3-3 too often and when we are getting dominated in the midfield and constantly on the back foot for 45mins, you need to be flexible. We would’ve had an extra CB on and been able to push Trent and Robbo into help the midfield more.

Correct. Klopp basically only plays 1 system and rarely deviates from it. Switching to what you suggest and giving opponents a different look would help.

He really does need to figure out the defensive problem though. It is not down to 1 player being here or not, but collectively we seem to find ways to collapse defensively after we gain the lead and cough it up at the end. I cannot understand how we can look so good and go up 2-0 then it's like they suddenly forget how to play and we become the 2nd best team.

No team finishes with 114 points, but we cannot continue giving up leads like this.

2 years ago we took advantage of every city slip and opened up a lead by December time.

Chelsea doing the same now  .... Rock solid at the back ... control the game and ruthless once they have a team on the ropes.

We can't win the league defending like this and throwing leads away ... 6 points now from winning positions. We were lucky in the end today to get a point, like at Brentford and that says it all.

Midfield is a big problem now.

Practically everyone in there is injury prone so we shouldn’t be too surprised we’ve got 5 or so of them out now.

On top of that we’re now full of midfielders that like to play a bit higher up - Jones, Ox, Keita, Elliott. Our team is set up for one of those max and in the big games we probably work best without any of them.

The more the season progresses the more I find the decision not to replace Gini with a disciplined defensive minded midfielder absolutely baffling.

Said it for years. We can afford 1 Keita 1 Jones 1 Ox but any of those with 2 work horses.

Injuries have left us in this situation but the lot of them are injury prone and its killing us.

If Hendo goes then we really are fu**ed now. And he usually does go.

Didn't see the game but sounds a bit like Milan and Atletico, where we got off to great starts and then dropped our level. Got away with it in those games but it catches up with you eventually. (Like at Brentford too.) Seems like we have a tendency to get complacent for JĂźrgen to sort out.

Naby hamstring so that's him until after international break along with Milner. Need Thiago and Fab back sharpish.

Not much to say that hasn't already been said.  We are missing Gini -- he brought balance and stability to the whole side.  He also seemed to always stay fit, which is a trait none of our other CM's seem to be able to mimic....

Ominous signs that this year is going to belong to the Chavs, but its a long season and we'll see what happens.

That lad Trossard looks a very tidy player.  Wouldn't mind him in our ranks rather than Taki or Origi....

it was a bit like the day after the lord mayors parade last week was a parade this week was always going to be an anti climax against a good team.
We are suffering again from injuries like last season only this time its midfield.
Doesnt take me long to get over a game and Madrid should be a good game to get back on to our very best.
We cant win every game 5-0 unless we play mid table teams like last week.

We were out performed. It happens. And we all pretty much said Brighton wouldn’t be easy.

On the plus side it’s another point where we haven’t played well and we are still unbeaten.

Our midfield lacks because of injuries so I’m not going to be critical when it’s still a very good start to the season.

Fair play to Brighton: they play decent football and didn’t let their heads drop.

If we are still in this position come January we will have a great chance.

Goes to show that no team should be taken for granted.

Nice take, maybe it’s a good thing to get a bit of reality for the players and come back down to earth

We led 2-0. We dominated them...then we stopped playing hard.

I wouldn’t say we dominated them.

Pretty much dominated up until the 3rd goal got ruled out. After that it seemed to rapidly go downhill.

Great first half, second was shocking, Ox, Jones, Bobby were awful and no one on the bench to change the way the game, that's the problem with a small squad, lucky to get away with a point from a game we should have walked.

Only watched the highlights but some standout performers for wrong reason Bobby and Jones main culprits. Konate very lax at times . Two points dropped and Chelsea the beneficiaries . Very tough game against West Ham before the break

It’s worrying that had it not been for Alisson saving us yet again, we could easily have shipped another 3 or 4 goals.
