Sorry about the Wall Street Journal pay wall.
Sorry about not being able to post this info in the currently "closed" FSG thread.

If anyone with access to the article can post details...most appreciated

Interesting acquisition. They aren't very good and the next couple of years will be big for the team as Crosby and Malkin age out and need proper replacements. They almost went bankrupt years ago and Lemieux came in and bought them (with another partner) saving the day, with the effects of covid probably making them want to sell.

Thank you, Ask Jeeves FSG version  Here's hoping they can find a few more quid for their prized asset if hundreds of millions of dollars can be found to invest in a failing baseball team with a ridiculous name.

Uhh 800M for a hockey team, the highest price ever for a NHL team, and it’s not even known how large their stake will be? Doesn’t sound like all that great of a deal.

Just seen the "NESV/Fenway Sports Group: Owners of LFC"  topic locked ?!?
Don't understand why that is. OK, it goes round in circles a bit, but why lock it?
Don't think was abusive or anything.

Imo locking the FSG thread is a mistake because it’s not like that’s going to make the netspenders stop their crap, so they’ll just take it to the other threads which is to the detriment of the board. The best case scenario is the FSG thread becomes their little echo chamber thus leaving the rest of the board for discussion.

I'd much rather have owners that were laser focused on running one sports team to the best of their ability. Adding a third really has to make you wonder where their loyalties and attention are going to lie.

suck it up mate history will eventually prove the doubters correct and the smell of profit will just be too much to refuse. Meanwhile we will need to jump through hoops to give Jürgen some quality players in January.

Don't really see the issue. They put virtually none of their own money in anyway, what is there that can actually change by them owning another team in another sport? Unless they are using the finances generated by Liverpool Football Club to help fund it then there is no problem.
Think people tend to forget they are businessmen, like the majority of owners, they aren't in the sport for the love of it, it's to boost their own portfolio's and accounts.

As long as it doesn't interfere in anyway with the football club, I couldn't really give a toss if they purchase the entire NHL.

It's the typical overreaction of the fickle fan. Back when FSG bought Liverpool, i remember the outcry of Red Sox fans that their team was going to be decimated because FSG was going to focus on Liverpool. FSG is a portfolio of entities, of which there are 7 of them each of which are run independently and don't commingle. Buying the Penguins or any other sports team does not interfere with any of the other 7.
