Liverpool 3-1 Newcastle United: In game and Post Match discussion
      Dec 16, 2021 07:00:33 pm

Starting XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Konate, Robertson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Thiago, Henderson, Mane, Salah, Jota.

Subs: Kelleher, Pitaluga, Milner, Keita, Firmino, Gomez, Minamino, Tsimikas, Williams.

Diogo Jota returns for Liverpool’s Anfield meeting with Newcastle United this evening.

The Portugal forward is restored to the starting line-up in place as the Reds make two changes from the weekend victory over Aston Villa.

With Fabinho and Virgil van Dijk ruled out after registering suspected positive COVID-19 tests, Ibrahima Konate also comes into the XI, while Roberto Firmino returns on the bench.

Fabinho, Curtis Jones and Virgil van Dijk will miss tonight’s Premier League fixture against Newcastle United after registering suspected positive tests for COVID-19.

Would of liked Naby rather than Ox but we have more than enough even with the Key losses of VVD and Fab

Solid side -- expecting to take all 3 points here.

Now I'm just hoping that the impending shutdown doesn't force fixture changes that mean we will have more matches during the ACON spell that Mane and Mo will miss....

The way BT were talking about it I though 70% of the team were down. Drama queens.

We have a very good team even without VVD and Fabinho.

      Come on Reds.

I hope this is our last game tonight whilst this Covid sweeps through surely it makes absolute sense to everyone other than the media to lockdown until its safe to carry on.
Hope we really get into them tonight and cheer the mood up Mo to score 6.

Excited to see Konate again he is like Virgil on Steroids and no slouch. IF Mane and Jota get a couple or more tonight along with Mo the top three Premier League scorers will be our front three.

Like when we played Watford, if we aren’t able to beat a terrible Newcastle side with a couple of players missing, we probably don’t deserve to be winning the league!

Even a fully rotated team we should be winning this match.

What determines if a game is cancelled or not? I’m sure any side this week with players out who are still playing and end up losing won’t be too happy with others getting a pass through losing players? Punished for holding a tighter ship?

That saying, our side is still very solid and more than enough to see Newcastle off so no excuses for us.

This is the main reason I think the league gets stopped soon. The Premier League judge it 'on a case by case basis' and it won't be long before some teams will be hard done by from the decisions made.

Either way, we apparently didn't apply to have this match postponed. Maybe we are trying to get through as many games as possible to avoid fixture congestion that other teams will have to deal with.

Think Chelsea are without Lukaku, Werner, Havertz, CHO but game going ahead.

We're probably better able to cover our covid losses than them.

Can't see how it's fair to have some teams with big guys missing from covid, playing teams who maybe are unaffected and can be full strength.

Would think they'll have to shut the PL down for a bit. F***ing pity, looking forward to the games over XMas.

I agree probably assessed opponent and fixture congestion concerns and thought let's get the points on the board . Mid winter break Jan we don't want any extra fixtures that month if we can help it although looks like Leciester Qtr final will have to replayed

We've only got two of our first team out.  Should have postponed last season with the state of our defence.

Plus Bobby's back in the squad ;)
