      My all time favourite goal
      Dec 25, 2021 10:37:56 pm
this time of year is often one of reflection. Its clear that so many of us have LFC deeply embedded in all of our lives.
I have seen some incredible moments both at Anfield and on TV Derby games in the 60's and 70's were more important than any league title of CL trophy  without a win over Everton everything else was meaningless. Emlyn Hughes was my first hero his 2 goals at Goodison in 1973 were just out of this world and significant as it was really where we started to pull ahead of them and never looked back.
But my favourite goal of all time is Ali's against W.Brom as after a terrible run at Anfield his goal just encapsulated what this club is all about. It still sends a shiver down the spine now when I see it.

It’s a real cliche one for me, however the feeling I got from this goal will live with me forever. The whole pub I was in went absolutely mental and I reckon only 20% were Liverpool supporters - everyone appreciated the skill and importance of this moment.

we are so lucky mate and as someone who walked the ten minutes to the ground I have learned to appreciate how people thousands of miles away feel the way you felt when Stevie scored that goal. If I am on my death bed going through my favourite Liverpool moments I will have to ask for a bit more time whilst I make my decision whether it is Steve Heighway's goal in the 71 cup final or Stevie's many goals that nobody else could score then this takes time and shouldnt be rushed.

Mine is a bit of a strange one because... there's actually nothing special about it.
Ultimately, it wasn't a massively important goal, it wasn't the most difficult, and it was scored by a player that ended up 'betraying' us.

I'm talking about the goal Torres scored against Utd in 2009 (with the gray away kit).

I don't even know why it's so special to me, but every time I think about it, it fills me with joy. It was Torres at his very best: the strength to take the ball off Vidic, the speed to get away, and the technique to dink it over Van der Sar's legs.
He made Vidic (the 'best defender in the world at the time', according to Utd fans) look like a Sunday league player.

I remember that goal so well Vidic was simply terrified of Nando he was along with Stevie simply the best in the world at that time. Its hard to pick just one but the Ali goal for me just simmed up the club never say die and never give up  and it was a cracking header too

Walton you barsteward, why do you do this to us ? Already nursing a b***ard of a headache then you come along and hit us with this wee stinker, how the F**k are we supposed to single out one special moment in the hundreds of thousands of special moments afforded us by the Redmen over all these decades ?

God almighty!! This is so difficult but anyway…..I’m gonna start with a more recent goal by none other than the our very own Super Mo Salah, even this is a mare….from his bamboozling slalom like goal against Pochettino’s Spurs, to his thunderbolt shot from 25yards out corner of the box V Chavs, simple but direct, and just the sheer pleasure of a artist at work,…..

…..Luis Suarez…F**k sake Walton…which one do I go for here ?…ok err..against Newcastle ball over the top Luis controls it with his chest, let’s it drop and with the slightest of touches beats the keeper and that hairy arsed defender breathing down his neck, all in the blinking of a eye, or could it be one of the three hat-trick goals V Norwich, from lobbing the keeper from 50yards out, or volleying past the same keeper with the ball slightly behind him, or that header from the edge of the 18 yard box can’t remember against who…Luis Suarez..the Crazy Genius…

….how can you pick one of Ste’s many many important goals he scored for us, in games where he single handedly dragged us to victory, the stand out one against Olympiakos, ‘ Lovely Cushioned header, What a hit Son, what a hit, that header in the ‘05’ final V ACMilan,  not particularly spectacular but the importance of it created that domino effect, without that goal there’s no way we wouldn’t have won the CL that season, there’s loads we could add, that free kick V Villa away, last seconds of the game and Ste slots the absolutely perfect postage stamp goal top right corner….sheer class from a true world class Huyton born hero and total Legend that is Steven Gerrard…

      …. f***in heid’s pounding now, thanks Walt….

…..Rushy….nah, can’t do this anymore, just so so many, ….

…..Robbie ‘God’ Fowler…same, a lot of Robbie’s were tap ins or within the box, but the build up plays that preceded them were awesome…..

If I were to single out a goal that typifies what we old fuckers used to call the Liverpool groove, I’d probably say Terry Mac’s goal V Spud’s, can’t quite remember the year but I’d guess at maybe ‘74’ -‘76’,
Clem rolls the ball out to Phil Thompson, he clips a ball left to Stevie Heighway, he takes one or two touches then delivers this absolute pin point accurate cross to Terry Mac, who had ran the length of the pitch to meet the ball and bullet header past the keeper into the far corner, I dunno but I reckon it could have been that goal that was the catalyst to me becoming a Red, I watched it on the telly box with my ol fella, and I remember him saying what a goal it was, the ‘Perfect goal’ he called it, and next day we went fishing and he spoke about it with my uncle, just the way they spoke about it at the time, now my old fella liked football but wasn’t a fan of anyone in particular so for him to wax lyrical about it told me it was indeed special, and so from that moment on I looked out for Liverpool and the rest is history…..

….Terry Mac scored some absolute crackers….and that particular one for me in my opinion would be my old time favourite……

…..now I’m going lie down in a darkened room complete with cold flannel and maybe crack one off….thx Walton ya bi*ch…merry Xmas !!

ha ha sorry Billy what about Tommy Smiths goal  in the European Cup final or Alan Kennedy. Probably best not to think too much.
Terry McDermot's goal from the Heighway cross was heavy metal football before anyone had thought of it

Impossible to pick. So many that will be overlooked for example Merieles v Wolves was off the chart but would never get the nod

Barnes or McManaman skipping by people for fun before scoring

God making a tit of a defender before unleashing a beauty

      Pass and move ala Spurs

Rockets ftom Stevie or big Jan

Or a bit of Kenny magic

      May God forgive ye Walton

For me the Gary Mac goal vs Everton.
We had just had a man sent off and missed a penalty (if I recall) and then up stepped Gary Mac to score from 45 yards and help us on our way to that cup treble...
And Houllier face is a treat...

Yes yes of course, easy to forget though mate, wasn’t that Tommy’s last goal for us Walt ? and Barney with his nose bleed goal, how he got past the two defenders was amazing and then to slot it in with that angle, amazing, I think that next season or might have been after that was our best X1, of course many will disagree maybe even yourself mate, but I honestly can’t see past this….

                                    Clemence
                  Neal   Hansen  Thompson  A Kennedy
                Case   Souness  McDermott  R Kennedy
                            Dalglish          Rush…..

…..had absolutely everything that team, security, strength, balance, pace, guile, intelligence, speed…and a unity probably not seen since Jürgen took the reigns, good old Bob, he knew how to build didn’t he, the original Bob the builder, 🤣, what a team though !!

Notable mention for smicer in Istanbul. That goal still makes me smile more than others that day...

But also a mention for yossi against Fulham. I truly believed after that goal we would win the league.

Speaking of the 2005 CL, the 'ghost goal' also deserves a mention. Just knowing it still pisses off Mourinho to this day is enough to make it an all time great.  ;D

In recent times it's this one at 58 seconds in the video. It doesn't get mentioned much, but I love the elegance, speed and geometry of it. From the right back position and two passes later it's a goal.

he never acknowledged Cech would have had a red card and still gone 1-0 down. It was Gudjohnson or something like that and every time I see it I expect it to go in.
