Pre-match: Liverpool V Shrewsbury Town FA Cup [Sun 9 Jan, 2:00pm]
      Jan 07, 2022 11:54:06 am

Liverpool FC can confirm the first-team facilities at AXA Training Centre have now reopened.

The senior training environment in Kirkby was temporarily closed for a 48-hour period following a significant number of suspected positive COVID-19 test results among the playing squad and staff.

The Reds’ Carabao Cup semi-final away leg against Arsenal, scheduled for Thursday, was subsequently postponed and has been rearranged for January 20.

After consultation with the relevant Public Health authority, operations have now resumed within the first-team set-up at the training ground.

Assistant manager Peter Krawietz is currently taking charge of the team and leading preparations for Liverpool’s next fixture, which sees Shrewsbury Town visit Anfield in the Emirates FA Cup third round on Sunday.

For predicted team, this will be a huge and wild guest due to Covid-cases.

      NB: Team no longer available

Didn’t we beat these with our youngsters a couple of years ago?

Kelleher, Bradley, Gomez, Konate, Beck, Williams, Milner, Morton, Gordon, Ox, Jones

Subs - no idea. Maybe Pitagula, Jota, Kostas, Bobby amongst them.

Have to wait and see who the additional players testing positive are. Some of the earlier cases should be back now, but then the question of how soon can they return to play in a match.

Allison may well be back for this

Nothing was confirmed about this news. There were rumours that Karius would be playing.

Not seen that but wouldn’t be shocked. Don’t think Ali would play. Given Pitagula has made the bench a few times this season where as Karius hasn’t at all, I’d lean towards Pitagula playing if that’s the case.

      from the echo

Fitness permitting, Liverpool could conceivably call upon at least six senior players on Sunday in Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho, Curtis Jones, Alisson Becker, Roberto Firmino and Joel Matip, with all having returned from isolation periods after testing positive for coronavirus.

Good chance for recovered players to shake off the rust. Hopefully we can get up big quick and then give most the hook and get ready for Arsenal.

Definitely wanna see Jones boss the park. He needs a game and some confidence. Going to need him the rest of the season.

He played one match last season and did pretty well.

I know it is frightening, but I definitely want Adrian if it is a choice between him and Loris Karius. Kind of like choosing between two ugly birds. You start scraping for redeeming characteristics ("that one doesn't spit when she talks, so, let's go with her").

      What a state of affairs.

I rather we put the names of all season ticket holders in a hat and Jürgen pulls out a name and whoever wins goes in goal over Adrian.

The FA Cup is the only domestic cup that matters. Since we are virtually done in the league I'd like to see us going strong in this competition. So bring the best of the rest (that is COVID-free).

The club don’t give a sh*te really about the fa cup

      It’s £1m prize money

Qualifying for the CL is the clubs/owners priority

A million pound prize money trophy does not matter whatsoever in the grand scheme for them

Probably true. But for us and the public the FA Cup is still some valueable piece of metal, alone because of its long tradition.

Its incredible that the prize money for winning the FA cup is only slightly more than we get for a draw in one CL group stage game.

Either UEFA are geniuses or the FA are idiots. Probably the latter.

Disagree with that. Sure if we get past Arsenal and make it to the final of the League Cup there'll be tens of thousands of reds in the capital who it would matter to. Both domestic cups have fell massively in stature over the last two decades or so but at the end of the day they're still trophies which you have to play several knockout rounds over the period of several months to reach the final of. For example if we make it to the League Cup final I'll personally be far more excited for that than I was for the Club World Cup final we played the other year

There are always priorities but when your league chances take such a hit it surely creates a greater impetus to win the cups. The perceived downgrading of the status of FA Cup is directly related to the influence of money in the game but if you ask Reds of a certain generation winning the FA Cup was almost on a par with winning the league. It is a shame it is sometimes not seen in the context of the history it has. At any rate it's been almost 16 years since Stevie lashed in that thunderbolt v West Ham and that's too long for a club of our stature. I would love to see us at Wembley, hopefully a Merseyside final!

Where are these rumours actually coming from?

Am I right in saying their manager or chairman then came out and had a go at the club for playing that line up and costing Shrewsbury extra income or something compared to if we had played a stronger line up?

Think they have had enough rest,  likes of Robbo need games before next week . No reason why if not Covid affected Senior players should not be playing or some minutes

      Correct.

Every fit and able bodied player now needs minutes.

Its been 7 days since last game, and that squad was pretty threadbare, some players haven't had a game for 2 weeks.

Normally I'd say Evertonian taxi drivers, but seen it on a couple of forums now. Kind of everyone saying it in hushed tones not wanting it to be true, but with Thiago's track record of injuries it probably will be.

What a prat, the tickets would have all been sold before the teams were announced. If thats true of course.

I hope it's not true but if it is then maybe we should get Gini back on loan. Silly lad should never have left.

      FURTHER HINTS AT TEAM NEWS.

That means the likes of Conor Bradley, Tyler Morton, Owen Beck, Kaide Gordon, Max Woltman and Harvey Blair will come into consideration, providing they are not affected by Covid.

First-teamers Thiago Alcantara (hip) and Divock Origi (knee) have been out for a couple of weeks and are unlikely to be risked but Takumi Minamino could come back after injury.

F**k knows what X1 we’ll be seeing today, but we should  have plenty to live another day whoever plays, seems like ages since we played so looking forward to it for sure can’t see the Shrews given us too much bother but it is the FA cup so you never know.

Anyone know if it’s on the tellybox and which channel?

      BBC red button.

Woltman starts as striker? I don't know who he is. Strong back line though.

I don't think it's on the red button or iPlayer. Nothing on the BBC website to suggest that so not sure sure where that one's come from.

Taki still can't get a start .... the mind boggles.

Trying to see the other side in that he is coming back from injury and we have tougher games coming up.

Strong enough team to win and move on.
