Joe Gomez is named in defence for Liverpool’s lunchtime encounter with Watford at Anfield.

The defender starts on the right side of the back four, with Trent Alexander-Arnold among the substitutes following a hamstring injury.

Curtis Jones begins in midfield, while Mohamed Salah is selected in attack.

Obviously  Naby still not right . Elliott seems to be way off the pecking order

Good to see Trent back on the bench at the least.  Rumours of a four/five week lay off have been eased.  No point rushing him back either as he will be used plenty in these final 8/9? weeks.

Hard game this. Think we will struggle with opening up their defense. Early kickoffs after nationals are never easy.

Don’t know if it’s a case of being off the pecking order because he was up near the top of it at one point. Think it’s more a case of not putting too much pressure on his return and Klopp always talks about the importance of rhythm and with Bobby, Jota and Thiago recently injured and Trent not fit enough yet, maybe it’s a case of getting the rhythm back for the more experienced players first. So yeah in a sense I guess it is in a way being down the pecking order but IMO there’s several factors as to why.

None of us can be completely surprised with the rotation, it’s what we will need to do, it keeps us fresh and gives a small indication who starts next game, Fabinho, Mane & Diaz will start V Benfica looks likely, Trent making the bench is very encouraging for him midweek too, we know already how brittle Naby lad is so he remains our only doubt atm for the next couple of games,

It may well be “Only” Watford but it’s still a cup final in terms of winning the title, there are no easy games in the EPL, we’ve seen it all before where the underdog can bite yer bollocks off and leave you wondering what if at the end of the season, it’s easy to say it won’t happen to us when confidence is flowing but we can’t afford complacency, I would doubt Jürgen would allow that to happen so boring I know but, it’s one game at a time and we move on, no airs & graces, no mad ‘we’re top of the league’ celebration, get these 95mins out of the way, and move on, it’s time to get down and dirty, be ruthless, adopt a siege mentality and conquer all in front of us.
