Thought he might go to a club at a slightly higher level but at least he should be a nailed on starter in a league which is intensely competitive. I think we've almost certainly accepted at this point that he will be sold and the teams that will be interested (if he plays well) will be the teams that get promoted, Bournemouth (inevitably, we are due another tidy sale) and maybe the bigger clubs in Portugal since they tend to take punts on players in the £10-£20m bracket.

I always thought we had mugged Bournemouth when we got £19m for Solanke but he now looks like a very good buy for them. They could probably get 50-60m from Chelsea, United or Arsenal if they wanted to sell him.

Players sometimes need time to develop.

Don’t think we will see him back here. Was an odd one in the first place seeing as though we don’t really play with a No 10 and that to me seems his best position.

Either way he’s a good player and will make a career somewhere.

      Agree.

He'll be off this summer I'm sure of it.

2 lovely goals today in Hull's 3-1 win at Cardiff.

If he can cope physically in the league and learn to use his body better to draw fouls he'll end up being a very good Prem player, his biggest weakness is he's easily dispossessed. Apparently 198 balls lost in the 14 games he's played which seems very high given the standard he's playing.

Thought a player of his ability would be able to notch up a few assists so to see him not have clocked a single assist this season is a shame.

Two managers now he’s been asked to play a WF role and he’s determined to say he wants to play the ten role.

Leipzig kept him out the squad too. Seems like this kid knows more than everyone else around him. I'd move him on. JK didn't seem to like him and he's already talking about Slot and him disagreeing

Can't see much wrong there with what he said, if Arne likes his wingers to stay high and wide with a lot of pace then Carvalho isn't your guy - it's clear he's built to be more of a #10/inside forward than to be stuck out wide, a waste of a position for me as he doesn't possess the skillset & when we have the likes of Diaz, Gakpo, Nunez and to a lesser extent Jota who can all play there with better effect it doesn't make too much sense to add another in that mix. For pre-season it's fine, you can understand why he's being shoehorned in that position, no one else is available.

Played mostly as the CF/AM under Rosenior and seemed to do well enough. If he isn't what Arne is looking for in those positions then it's better to move him on, there doesn't really need to be a "flair up" over this.

Very unlikely he gets in a the team.

He is as well getting himself gone, loan or permanent.

Almighty, I think you're being fair with his statements, and I commend you for that. But I would also say that they are part of a continuous pattern. This kid likes people to know that he's a #10 and that he isn't utilized properly. He can play that role against slower / less physical competition, but against the best of the best, he isn't rated by his managers in that position.

Why say anything at all? Why not leave out what you think and just say you're willing to do a job? Joe Gomez didn't do interviews where he said he's being played wrong. He just shows up and goes where the boss tells him to go.

Would agree that he’s not got the attributes to play the wide area and there is a lot of players ahead of him looking for the 10 role.

A loan or permanent move would be better for him.

Players are usually asked a variety of things so maybe he was asked specifically on his position, maybe he told Arne his best position was as a 10 before this interivew, we don't really have a deep insight into these things, he's a 21 year but judging from a few interviews I've seen him give in person I'm not sure he's fully matured in the mind so they'll be a few things said which fans read and think hold on a minute.......footballers aren't really known for being the most intelligent of breeds....our vice captain also doesn't hesitate in telling everyone where he thinks he's best played but we give him a pass because he backs it up on the pitch, well supposedly. Joe Gomez is a shy boy and tends to stay away from the cameras and the media so we're less likely to hear anything contentious come out his mouth.

The most striking thing about this kid is his attitude problems. We usually don't get it wrong on that front, which suggests he only started showing these issues once he arrived here, as there was no sign of them at Fulham.

He seems overly sure of himself, wanting the manager and the club to create a position for him or play him where he wants. I would understand that from a marquee signing who came here as a No. 10, played all his life at this position, shined in it and was promised that role only to find himself having to gear up for a permanent LW position. He's not that kind of player, and I find it hard to believe we promised him anything beyond a shot at the starting 11 if he proves himself.

We loaned him to Leipzig and he was very quickly relegated to the bench and, if I remember correctly, was even left out of the squad for a good portion of the season.

At this point, we should just move him, even at a loss considering the price we paid for him. We don't need that attitude in the team, and we can save on wages.

Leipzig was a poor choice for us to allow him to move to, it was always going to be a hill too steep for him to climb. A bit part player at Liverpool to a regular for a CL club like Leipzig doesn't happen when you have full experienced internationals like Simons, Olmo, Baumgartner, Sesko and Openda already there.

Odd from us to sign a player who was the young championship POTY playing as a #10 when we played without 1, maybe the idea all along was just to send him on a few loans to impress and then maximise our profits.
