      Free Transfer XI
      Jun 03, 2022 06:34:03 pm
Just read that Daniel Sturridge is a free agent again. Had a quick google as to who else was running out of contract...
I came up with this team, but there are loads of players....

      GK: Forster
      RB: Aurier
      LB: Marcelo
      CB: Christensen
      CB: Tarkowski

      CM: Pogba
      CM: Isco
      CM: Eriksen

      ST: Dembele
      ST: Dybala
      ST: Lacazette

I wonder if any of the frees would interest us. Even if it was just a short term cover.

      Of that list:

      Forster - Spurs
      Tarkowski - Probably the bitters
      Pogba - Juve
      Dybala - Probably Inter
      Lacazette - Off to France

Some rumors that we're trying for Dembele, but not sure where he would actually fit in the team!  I also wouldn't mind taking a punt on Isco - given his wages aren't astronomical.

Isco a few years back I'd have in a heartbeat but seems to have regressed recently.

Can we add Rudiger and Mbappe to your starting 11?  They have signed new deals but would be free agents this transfer window. Or do they have to be free agents now?
Both would definitely improve that team.

      A few other names:

      Kessié (off to Barcelona probably)
      Belotti (Milan AC?)
Lingaard (nah, just joking, we're talking about football players here)
Tolisso (interesting profile, but plagued by injuries in recent seasons)
Suarez and Cavani (to be fair, we could use one of them as backup striker, but their history with us/Utd means it a 'no')
Witsel (very good player, but wouldn't work with our system)

I think we missed a trick with Boubacar Kamara. He's a versatile player that we could have used as backup for Fab'.
Same could be said for Mazraoui (backup for Trent).

There's also this young lad. Divock... something. Can't remember his name. He seems pretty good. I'm sure the Kop would love him.  ;)

Is that Christian Eriksen? How has he done this season? Was a time I’d have had him in a heartbeat.

I see what you did there.  ;D

It seems he's done alright with Brentford. On a free, and if he's not too greedy, he could be a good option for a couple of years, just enough time to let our youngsters (Elliott, Jones, Morton, etc.) mature.

      Youri Tielemens (25)
      Thomas Lemar (26)
      Douglas Luiz (24)

Three players that are free at the end of the season that are the right age profile
to solve a lot of problems for Liverpool right now.

The club need to get January right.
It could transform the season the same way signing Diaz did.

The club should be pushing like hell to get one or two of those players in January.
Play the long game all you want on Jude, but there has to be a Plan B and the
squad needs at least two midfielders.

Isn't Kante also a free agent next summer? Out of all those names, the two that interest me on a free are Kante and Laimer, but I wouldn't go for the latter. Way too many games missed through injuries in his career so there's no point in getting him even on a free. The rest is not good enough in my opinion (or have questions marks in terms of their attitude like Tielemans) and I'd prefer if we bought an extra two or three in the summer.

      In:
      - (32yo) Kante (free transfer)
      - (23yo) Maxence Caqueret (Olympique Lyonnais-  market value of 22.5m )
      - (22yo) Enzo Fernandez (SL Benfica- market value of 18m)
      - Somebody else (I haven't done enough research to propose another name, but hey, we are apparently in for Belingham)

      Out:
      - Keita
      - Ox
      - Milner
      - Jones (lets cut our loses with this kid. I don't think he will make it as a starter at this club. I'd much rather see Bajectic, Clarkson, or Morton get those minutes)

The thread reminds me of a recent interview with Edwina Currie on Good Morning Britain when she pulled out the tin foil and said heat your home by sticking it behind the radiator.

Martin money saver Lewis head in hands wondering what fresh hell he was living in.

We're one of the biggest clubs in the biggest league in the world. Think about the TV deals and the many sponsorship deals we have signed recently. Under Jürgen we've been to 3 champions league finals won a title and finished 2nd 3 Times. Wheres the f**king money?

Surely we can afford to not have to visit this theoretical food bank, flapping about for the least mouldy spud we can find.

Nobody is saying were skint, the thread has only highlighted the fact there are some good players coming to end of contracts.

Nothing wrong with getting players on frees, means can pay more wage, everyone is a winner.

It's called smart business. Italian clubs do it all the time.
One marquee signing supplemented by smart signings of players at the end of contract.
Not every club is State owned and can offer obscene money the way City and PSG do.

And F**k your use of a food bank reference in this context.

Wasn't Lemar heavily rumored to come here after the Coutinho fiasco as his replacement? What a waste for him (and Joao Felix) to go to Atletico.

If the club got Lemar and Luiz it would make life a lot easier for one big signing.
Especially with Firmino, Ox, Keita & Milner all in the final season of their contract.

How on earth would that offend anyone you dafty?

The Italians use that market because they cannot compete with the money in the PL. They also end up paying huge wages instead.

The last time one of those clubs did anything of use in the champions league?

Nah its not a market we should be looking at. Full of old boys, the injury prone or trouble makers.

Unfortunately smart signings don’t satisfy some - needs to be expensive and marquee only
