Football fans love their club, and the players who represent the club at any given time are all generally loved too. We are drawn to the players because they make up the team, and the team brings us all the joy....and all the despair that makes being a fan a fan. It is an emotional rollercoaster.
I deliberately used the bus ticket metaphor so as to amplify my point....a footballer's career is ephemeral, they serve, and then they're gone, and it's someone else's turn.
I don't get all this keep him at the club "he's a leader in the dressing room"...."a legend with experience" nonsense. If you are good enough to play, then play....if you're in decline and becoming a liability...then Thank you and goodbye...it's time for the next LFC hero to take to the stage.
Generally I agree with you but I think that you are being too cold in your assessment of football players.
The vast majority of a footballers worth is on the pitch but we also need to think about their place in the squad, bringing on the next generation, teaching them how to win championships as well as being good players.
I agree that sentimentality should mostly be avoided in football but it's important to sustain the culture of winning that Klopp brought back to the club to. Robbo still has a place in the squad for another season or two.
He was not afraid to lose his sh*t with Virgil on Sunday, that's a good thing IMO, need that for a bit longer.
And, most importantly, I think that he can still do it on the pitch for a bit longer. However, wo do need a new top quality LB.
