Liverpool 1-1 Crystal Palace: In game and Post Match discussion
      Aug 15, 2022 07:00:26 pm

Anfield waiting to host the first home match.

Starting XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Phillips, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Milner, Elliott, Diaz, Salah, Nunez.

Subs: Adrian, Gomez, Keita, Tsimikas, Henderson, Carvalho, Clark, Bajcetic, Van den Berg.

Nat Phillips starts for Liverpool in tonight’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.

The centre-back partners Virgil van Dijk at Anfield, with Joel Matip ruled out due to a muscle strain and Joe Gomez on the bench.

Elsewhere, Darwin Nunez makes his full competitive Reds debut in attack, while Harvey Elliott and James Milner come into midfield.

Naby Keita and Kostas Tsimikas return to the squad as substitutes, but Roberto Firmino is absent as a precaution.

Crikey! Not even mid August and we're into our 5th choice centre back.

Good to see Harvey Elliott starting.

It’s not a good sign for Gomez that he appears to now be our 5th choice CB. Unless he’s carrying a knock again, I can’t understand why he’s signed a new long term deal.

Rest of the team is as expected

Bold from Klopp choosing Phillips rather than Gomez. I understand Klopp choosing Milner over Henderson.

Firmino is injured or off to another club?

We have to win this. Come on Reds.

Nat Phillips ahead of Gomez? What the f**k? I’m sorry but that makes no sense at all to me.

      Fingers crossed it works out.

Thought Joe might have been Virgil's partner at the back tonight. C'mon reds front foot from the first to final whistle.

Wow, didn't expect to see Nat in the 11 ahead of Gomez, but good on him.  He must have been showing up to training with a better attitude than Joe and earned his spot in the side.  Also surprised to see Hendo on the bench for Millie.  Pumped for Harvey and Darwin to show what they're all about!!

Gomez injured but on bench ? Bobby starting to pick up injuries more frequently.  Just hope Naby can have an impact off bench

Totally. Can only think Phillips bossed it in training ahead of Joe.

Is it a training related thing that we get so many injuries? The way we play and train is very intense, especially in pre-season with the fitness. The amount of injuries we’ve had in the last 2 years must be significantly more than anyone else. Either that or we train on concrete.

With the squad we should have we shouldn’t be starting Milner

Was arguably our best player last week. I’d take him over Hendo right now, no question about it.

Not sure if we tweaked our pre season a bit this season but we certainly look very vulnerable to injuries at the moment with a few more ruled out since Jürgen's presser on Friday.

Just need to find a way to grind this one out. All about staying in touch these first weeks, try and get to that international break in late September with not too much damage.

Nat get him in the shop window ? Joe must be a bit perplexed at that one after signing a new deal. No Hendo also a bit of a surprise but I expect us to win this. I am delighted to see Darwin spearheading the attack and Harvey given a key role in CM.
