Big blow if Konate is out. I like Phillips but he doesn't have the pace to deal with Haaland. Got to be Joe I think (Fab is an ok shout, but also is a bit short of pace).

Is Ramsay fit enough? Would be a hell of a big game to throw him in, but Milner is too slow now for that position I think, so maybe we have to risk Ramsay. Far from ideal no matter what we do to be honest. It'll be a shame if no Konate cos I thought he was pretty well suited to match up with Haaland.

(Wouldn't completely surprise me if we see Hendo at RB if Konate is out actually. Not ideal either, but it might be a case of needs must.)

If konate isn’t fit then it has to be Gomez in the middle and Milner right back for me. We have to keep Fabinho in midfield and Phillips is too slow and nowhere near this level. I like Phillips and he can do a job against the bottom half teams but this is a step too big for him.

Milner is getting unfair criticism this season and has been a bit of a scapegoat in truth. He hasn’t been brilliant but who has?  It’s just frustration because he’s about 57 and he’s still starting games for us. Take it out on the owners, not him. He’s been a brilliant player for us and deserves more respect. He has spent his whole Liverpool career filling in ‘doing a job’ and tomorrow is no different.

Depending on who is on the left for city I think he will be fine. I think he will pocket grealish all day long but he might struggle against foden…like any other right back would. This is where the pace of Gomez in the middle could be crucial.

I agree with you Milner has been an easy scapegoat. I think he can still do a turn for us at CM when we are short. But at RB I think he is just a bit too slow now, would rather we tried another option.

He can do ok there if the back line doesn’t push up, then he won’t need to rely on pace so much.
Not much chance of that happening though.

Milner can still do a job for us when we are short.  But not against the top teams.  No way against the top teams in the PL and the knockout European teams.  A couple of seasons ago sure but not now.

Not crazy. I forsee Hendo becoming the new Mily. He's not leaving so I forsee him doing anything the team needs,  because that's who he is.  Even if we revamp the MF he will stay and do whatever helps the club. Emergency RB  isn't a stretch for a versatile player like Hendo

Ibou missing is a massive blow. I just can't see how we can compete with them today with milner at rb, gomez and cb, going to be a massive mismatch I'm afraid

Now people calling for Milner to play at RB against City, when earlier it was said he should never start a PL game again

Milner should not start this game. Period. He is 37 and just to slow for the game now especially against the attacking threat City offers.

Don’t know why people also surprised about Konate being in doubt, at Leipzig he was a injury prone player. He only played 95 games in 4 seasons.  So no surprise he is potential out again.

Better play Fab at CB or Hendo at RB IMO.

Fabinho has to play in midfield - his form isn’t great but if he plays well there then we have a chance

      Milner cannot start at RB.

                                                                               Ali

                                                               Gomez, Fab, VVD, Robbo

                                                                       Thiago  Hendo

                                                                               Jota

                                                                Salah                   Bobby

                                                                              Nunez

With the top four interchanging throughout the game, perhaps changing to two at the top at times.

      Let's go for it lads.

People calling hendo to play right back is a strange one. It would affect the midfield too much and in these games the midfield is key.

I’m not even a fan of Henderson but he has to start in midfield in this game. He’s one of, if not the first, name on the team sheet.  Fabinho also has to start in midfield. Thiago has to go back in and we go back to a 4-3-3 instead of playing a 424 as well. Those three pick themselves.

It looks like it’s going to be a choice of Gomez at right back and put Phillips in, or move Gomez into the middle and put Milner at right back. It’s the latter for me all day long. The level of disrespect shown towards Milner is quite shocking really.

Be interesting to see what team Jürgen goes with but presuming konate is out then I would go with:

      Ali
      Milner
      Gomez
      Vvd
      Robbo

      Fabinho
      Hendo
      Thiago

      Jota
      Bobby
      Salah

Milner will get torn apart if he plays at right back and sent off if he plays in midfield. Better to play Robbo and Kostas as WB's and Joe at CB.
Lets hope Konate pulls through or it will be an even more difficult afternoon not a single pundit gives us a chance.
We are not going to keep a clean sheet against City so attack is our best option and listening to pundits again they seem to think Jürgen is one dimensional in his tactics or planning so I so want to put all these cu*ts back in their box.
I can see it being a bit lively on here this afternoon.

      I’m shitting bricks…

Finish work exactly as we kick off so I’ll be listening on the way home… I fear I may be arriving home in tears.

I pray Konate is okay, otherwise I struggle to see past a draw with a makeshift defence, Milner at RB is suicide against these but putting Fab into defence messes up midfield… even though his form has been awful to be fair.

I have a feeling Konate will be missing though so I guess I’d have to go with…

                     Alisson
      Gomez - Fab - Virgil - Robbo
                Hendo - Thiago
          Salah - Firmino - Jota
                       Nunez

Can’t have Milner anywhere near that starting 11.

those who want Milner starting seem to forget just how awful he has been and its purely down to his age he has wrung every bit off success out of his career but it should now be Cameo performances in the last 10 mins now. If Foden sees him on the Start sheet he may injure himself laughing.
ALso in the media with Holt discussing Klopp going who the F**k is saying anything like this. This is the problem with Social media no-marks who will never have been not near Anfield necessarily but near a football pitch.

I don’t think it’s disrespect, Just an observation this season. It is a fact that Milner is at an age now where he is not suppose to start a premier league game for Liverpool. Especially against Man City. That is not is role in the team. He tried to do his best when called upon him but I’m afraid it is like asking a tired old dog to go and play catch for the next 90 Min. It just painful for everybody involved.
