      Nov 29, 2022 09:27:47 am
F1 2023 pre-season testing will take place on 23-25 February at the Bahrain International Circuit.
This will be the first chance to see the new cars and drivers in action.
The three-day test is expected to take its regular format of eight hours of running each day ā€“ four hours in the morning and four hours in the afternoon split up by a one-hour break ā€“ with one car per team allowed to run at any one time.
All 20 F1 drivers, plus any test and reserve drivers, will be in action at the test.

      5 November   Brazilian GP   Interlagos
18 November   Las Vegas GP   Las Vegas
26 November   Abu Dhabi GP   Yas Marina

F1 will hold its biggest-ever calendar in 2023, with 24 races scheduled for next season, up from the 22 races held in 2022.
Returning to the calendar are the Chinese GP and the Qatar GP, absent due to COVID-19 restrictions in China and the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, plus an all-new addition of the Las Vegas GP.
While F1 has raced in Las Vegas before, at Caesars Palace in 1981-82, the new purpose-built Las Vegas complex will see the series race around the most iconic landmarks in the city.

Tweaks to the 2023 schedule see the Azerbaijan GP return to an early spring slot having previously been held in June, while the Belgium GP has been pushed forward to before the August summer break to avoid a triple-header after the summer break with the Dutch and Italian rounds.
There will also be six sprint races in 2023, up from three in the previous two seasons, although it is unknown which events will host changed race format.

      New for 2023 F1 Season

      Roll hoops strengthened
Roll hoops for F1 cars have been strengthened for 2023 primarily due to the incidents of the 2022 F1 British GP. To refresh memories, George Russell and Guanyu Zhou clashed at the start of the race in Silverstone.

      Larger mirrors on F1 cars
The second major change in cars is the installation of larger mirrors on them. This was trialed by a few teams earlier in the season and will be a part of the cars next season.
This has been done to address one of the biggest complaints F1 drivers have had over the years: their inability to see anything in the tiny mirrors. No F1 team, however, would want to install bigger mirrors considering their aerodynamic repercussions.
The FIA has taken the matter into its own hands now and the cars will have standard-sized mirrors that are somewhat bigger than those currently used.

Back of the grid penalties explained
Following confusion among teams regarding grid penalties, the FIA has tried to simplify things to an extent.

Article 28.3 of the sporting regulations now no longer mandates that drivers must start from the back if they incur 15 places of grid penalties.

This was amended after Ferrari replaced multiple elements of Charles Leclerc's power unit at different times in Spa in an attempt to avoid a back-of-the-grid penalty. Updated regulations state that if a driver has accrued more than 15 cumulative grid position penalties or has been penalized to start at the back of the grid, he will start behind any other classified driver.

Any driver with 15 or fewer grid penalties is 'filled in' based on their results in qualifying. If two drivers end up in the same position with a penalty, the fastest based on their qualifying time is moved forward one place.

Here's hoping for more in 2023. You know 2022 was bad when Sergio Perez nearly finished runner up. Ah well, such was the supremacy of that RB car (one of the best ever made in fairness)

Shame about Binotto. Very much 'and repeat' from Ferrari. The longer Ferrari's title drought goes on the more remarkable a leadership team Todt, Brawn and Schumacher looks.

The sport needs it's greatest driver back up top and fighting in a good car (amongst many other things). The box office value Hamilton adds is second to none as we've sorely learnt this year.

Unfortunately, the writing was on the wall... A very capable and smart person, but could it be that he was too nice for a team principal position?

In many business people get promoted to the level above what their skillset was most suited for.
So it was here. Really good engine dev. Integral to the team at many levels.
Really came up short with backing his No 1 team.

When he needed to deal with the failings on the pit wall he instead scolded his driver.
Ultimately he probably needed someone in a dual role, but that's not an option now.

Interesting merry-go-round amongst the team principals.

Vasseur to Ferrari and Seidl to Sauber/Audi. Both incredibly competent leaders.
I can't wait to see what they can achieve.

And Jost Capito also stepped down at Williams, that's a shame.

Yeah it's a shame - had good motorsport pedigree did Capito.

Vasseur is Ferrari's first real external appointment to that role since his compatriot Todt took the role in the early 90s. (Arrivabene did come from Philip Morris but was already deeply entwined with Ferrari as a result of their Marlboro association.)

Hard to tell with the HAAS.
It's only a reserve driver role so it's no different to when he was with Ferrari at the moment.
Will be some Sim driving and probably a FP1. Guy needs time in the car though.

I don't think I've been more certain of the outcome of a championship for 20 years. Simply cannot see any way past Max. They're just in the purple patch of supremacy that RB themselves had a decade ago, Mercedes had in the following years and Ferrari had 20 years ago.

Red Bull are baked in for the next few years.
Then Mercedes will have to build a new engine for 2026 when the split turbo is banned.
Mercedes dominated and everything since two years ago has been designed to chip away at them.
Mind you it doesn't help that they've persisted with the zero pod.
Has to be the draggiest car on the grid.
