Cody Gakpo Player Thread (F)

He has looked a lot better. Think I seen him in a YouTube video last week looking back on old LFC memories with Eliott Klopp and Ljinders.

In it Klopp said that he started to try and prove things that people never asked for. Which I think was a reference to him shooting too much and trying to score goals too often to what was to the detriment of the team at times.

I think in a functioning front 3 Cody's role has to be the Firmino and Bobby was class in that role. Bobby would go a lot of games without scoring so Gakkers shouldn't particularly feel like he absolutely has to score to produce a great game for the team. He just has to be the metronome for the wider 2 to play around.

The other problem with that is Firmino played with prime Mo and Mane and Gakpo is playing with an older Mo and 2 proper proper 🤡 in Diaz and Nunez who at this stage I'm convinced are deliberately trolling with their respsctive abilities to F**k up the most promising situations and naively run offside by going too early.

I think he'd agree with you, but like Gomez, he will turn up and play whatever position the boss puts him in. What more can a CF who isnt a CF do but put the ball in the back of the net?

He's done terrific since getting a run. Game changed when he came off.

He was very good last night. He is really good with the ball in his feet, he can dribble and strong enough to keep it when challenged. Hopefully he's giving Slot a headache. For me, what matters is the end product. If he's making us score more than Diaz or even Jota, he starts wherever suits him best.

Gakpo was brilliant against Romania, hope he can perform at that level, next season.

He's been brilliant all tournament.

Gakpo is gonna fire the Dutch to the Euros, Diaz gonna fire Colombia to the Copa America.

Both gonna get plenty of game next season and hit 20+ goals.

There's some pretty strong evidence for that now based on his performances so far. Id be inclined to think a Dutchman will help get the best out of him on his return.

Maybe as his career progresses and he gets more experience he'll develop into a player that is better in congested central areas but right now he looks a lot better on the wing.

Good goal but his assist was outstanding. Strength, balance, touch and composure. He was playing well for us the last couple of months lest we forget, just the team wasn't.

Get him into space and dangerous areas, Gakpo (like Jota) will deliver.

He's played on the left for us before.

Lets be honest, a couple bad performances and everyone gonna start saying he's sh*t and we should sell.

I've been having this debate with a friend for some time. I'm more dispappointed by Diaz than Gakpo or Darwin. I'd rather lose Diaz than Gakpo or Darwin. Diaz is technically more gifted but his stats and impact on games are poor IMO. Gakpo has struggled because Klopp made him play everywhere, Darwin has scored more than anyone except Salah. But Diaz, I don't think he should start ahead of Gakpo, Jota or Darwin.

Pretty much agree.

I'd move Diaz on personally for two reasons. I think he's nowhere near the player we thought we were getting. And also Nunez, Gakpo, Joat and Diaz can all play left side.

We need another who can play from right side and centrally.
