Mad to think Utd could've had their hands on him 6 months before we signed him for the same fee they ended up spending on Zirkzee  :lmao:

When it comes to "quietly going about his business without getting media attention," Gakpo is very much in the Sadio Mane and Gini Wijnaldum mould.

Last week it was Mo who matched his goal tally from last season, tonight was Cody's turn. 16 now in all comps, which is crazy going for a wide man. Wonder how many he'll finish with?

Liverpool have bought a lot of sh*t players after 'good World cups' or 'good Euros'.

Gakpo is an outlier.  Arguably our best World Cup buy.  Prepared to stand corrected.

He is becoming the reliable goal-scoring winger we've been looking for since Sadio Mane left.
That was missing. And even though he's not as spectacular, he is becoming as effective and scoring very regularly. Very good for him and us.

I hope Diaz would provide better competition there but at least Gakpo is performing at the required level.

Firmly cemented himself as our second best attacker after Mo now.

Not just his goals (which is great to be at 16 in Feb) but his all round game has come on leaps and bounds in the last 12 months.

Was it Trent, when they both saluted each other? Not sure and very recent!

Cody just gets better and better. We have the best attack in the world!

Too often invisible for my liking.

Mane, don't think I can recall ever thinking, "didnt notice Mane today". With Gakpo, its regular.

Gakpo has a really good, powerful shot on him when he cuts inside, but just doesn't do enough to make him top class.

Diaz on the other hand, have never seen him have a quiet game. He is not a #9 so again struggled there and offered nothing as a focal point (hopefully Slot bins that one off), but once on the left he did at least look lively. He lacks the killer in front of goal so he too is not top class, but I'd edge him over Gakpo in overall output.

We had a 0.6 xG today, and that was almost entirely down to Mo.

Chiesa I'd like to see be given a proper go on the left (and more than a run out on a bone dry pitch like Plymouth). He combines the outfield quality of play that Diaz provides, and the direct attacking threat that Gakpo can give (when he does appear). He is a dangerous player who is constantly involved, a combination neither Gakpo nor Diaz can bring.

We don't have enough spark from our front 4.

If Salah doesn't provide as he so often does, no one else steps up.....& I don't even think Mo's overall game is up to much when he's not scoring/assisting.

Diaz twists and turns only to lay it back, Gakpo we know has these games where he barely gets a kick and Szobo just runs about looking for the next person to foul.

He got F**k all service. Think Mo makes everybody else look bad cos he also got very little service but still got a goal and an assist. Mo still saw a bit more of the ball than Gakpo though, cos Bradley was giving him more help than Robbo was Gakpo.

Looked like he was caught a few times and was limping when he came off

Diaz looked better on the left as well when he moved there

How many goals has he scored recently. Yeah poor game tonight, but that can happen in derbies. Hasn't been that invisible in recent weeks.

Yea, it seems odd to be singling out Cody for criticism...he's been one of the first names on the team sheet for me in recent weeks.

      Have you seen Chiesa recently?

Saying give him a  chance before Gakpo is pure F***ing stupidity, plus he hasn't F***ing earned that chance yet.

Chiesa has impressed in every appearance he has made bar that shambles at Plymouth on a bone dry surface and with two children in midfield.

We saw them both on the field at PSV. One stood out a mile and was constantly involved, the other, as he often is, was anonymous.

Chiesa has world class pedigree. What I'd like to see is a real opportunity to show it, in a proper game with the first team.
