Haaland or Mbappe. Unfinished products are ok, City does it too, but once in a while you have to buy a franchise player (if you do not happen to get him for free like we did with Stevie). But as long as we are not owned by Sheikhs it is ok I guess to buy young raw players in hope to make them superstars and so to avoid to overpay.

We bought Virgil and Allison who both probably fits your criteria of a "franchise" player. Maybe Bellingham will arrive in the summer.
It's generally not good to buy lots of big name players, look at United over the last 7 or 8 years. Buying younger players gives Klopp the opportunity to develop the player and team. He's 1 of the best coaches in the world, maybe the best, let him do his job.
Also, mostly buying less expensive players is a financial necessity for the club.

I think under Jürgen Klopp, we will obviously see a decent player, become a very good player, to say the least.

Or when you have a bit of a injury crisis with three of your top forwards injured!!

I'd suggest player recruitment is always" Pickn'mix"...with some young prospects brought in (Carvalho etc.) and some, let's say proven talent (Thiago etc.) brought in. There's no guarantee of knowing how anyone will workout.... We do pretty well all told.

I’m happy about this signing, but I’m a bit surprised.

I would have thought we would have been looking at a right sided player rather than a player who plays predominantly on the left, but Diaz played a few times on the right last season and looked good there. Jota has played off the right quite a few times but I think it’s his worst position. Gakpo can also cover CF and could probably do a job on the rw if needed. Perhaps he could also play as a #10 in a 4231.

What I like about him is how composed he is. He is really good at cutting in from the left and bending a shot into the far corner. He also has a great right footed cross from the left wing. His passing and link up play looks good. He doesn’t look like a particularly flashy player but he can beat a man and has decent pace and strength.

Our options up top are incredible. We just need to get everyone fit. I would have certainly prioritised a midfielder over a forward but it may be that we have to wait until the summer for who we really want. I think we need at least two midfielders to come in, so perhaps we will still see a cheaper option come this window.

Hopefully Gakpo can help us achieve top 4 and then we will be a better position to rebuild in the summer.

Slight downside is that similar in a sense to Darwin. Just misfiring and not converting chances. New players take a bit of time getting the pace of the Prem etc.  And the one thing we haven't got this season is time. We need all the points and can't afford the luxury of new players missing chances, bedding in etc.

So Cody la...get yer friggin' boots on an' do the feckin' bizzo...

More than 20 games to go. Long long way to go. We're gonna make it. May even win a cup.

      Welcome to the club Cody!

Looks like we might be waiting a little while for a debut though, apparently he's barely trained since Netherlands went out of the World Cup.

I'm not expecting him to be a world beater but for a big lad he looks like he has got technique and he's clearly doing well in the Dutch league.  Big step up to the Premier League but with Firmino likely at the end of his contract and some major concerns over Jota and Diaz injuries then I think it's more than reasonable that we need cover.  Oxlade-Chamberlain started in the Sadio Mane position in our last game FFS.

      Welcome to the club.

A front three of Jota Diaz and to an extent Bobby out long term or possibly leaving , the club address the issue and some are not happy with it the mind boggles at some of our fans on times .

So, the big question here is....

      Why didn't he take the No.10 👀 ?

Watching brief highlights, Cody looks a real good striker of the ball. Hope it is not too long before, he makes his debut.

Before everyone starts saying him coming means bobby will leave.

Klopp 100% wants him to stay

      Quote
When asked about Firmino's future and whether Gakpo's arrival will have an impact, Klopp told his pre-match press conference: "No. We had talks with Bobby. From my point of view, I want him definitely to stay. It has no impact. If it affects Bobby then you'd have to ask him."
