Teams walk through our midfield now putting our high line in immediate danger. Elliot just gets played around, he's a good technical player but very slow for this system.

Carragher alluded to Eliott and Carvalho not being Klopp.players . Maybe not yet is the answer and they have played more than planned due to other injuries . Have to agree about Elliott needing some time out looks lost in a 3 does not have the dynamism for.it

I agree with you. But is that not also an argument why Klopp's system becomes obsolete? It is too demanding! Klopp's pressing only works 2 years then the whole team needs an overhaul.

What are the chances of that with FSG in charge?
The owners are totally to blame for the team's failings in the context of quality in depth, if Klopp didn't have the financial restrictions FSG impose we would be a match for any side.

I don't care if we get top 4 or not. The most important thing is to get rid of the FSG this year so we can start the season with new owners.

This is the single most important post on this forum. Just quoting it, to highlight it. All this would not happen with a Skeikh. He'd give Klopp some real tools and we would have won 1 more PL title and 1 more CL title meanwhile. But better late than never.

A lot of the reaction to this game is complaining about our general weaknesses this season, which is understandable. But actually this game was not that typical of our troubles this season. The problem today wasn't really them playing through us and getting behind our high line etc. It was rank rotten defending of balls into the box. That's something that statistically we've been pretty good at this season.

This game was actually more like the same fixture last season, when they overloaded certain areas of the box, stuck crosses in, and we couldn't handle it. The fact we couldn't handle it again today means that Frank basically out-coached Jürgen for this one. We should have known what was coming, but we clearly weren't ready for it. (In fairness to Jürgen, he wouldn't have expected Fab to completely miss his header for their first, although he definitely should have expected Trent to get caught between 2 stools when doubled up on for their second). But yeah, it was the general carnage in the box from aerial balls that was the big problem today, not the age of our midfield.

I still agree that our midfield needs additions. We don't have the same intensity and energy there that we used to. That has been our biggest problem all season. It just wasn't our biggest problem today.

I gave Ox MOTM. I'm not a fan of his in general but he was good today - not just the goal but quite a few good moments, the best being his bit of skill to tee up Kostas.

I see some people blaming FSG for not getting Klopp players that would fit in his system. That’s fair. However, it’s also Klopp’s job to lay out a system that gives the team the best chance to win with the players that he DOES have. Does Klopp deserve any blame for trying to fit a square peg into a round hole?

Klopp could have said I need a CM instead of another wide forward and yes it’s him along with his back room staff who set up the team every week in a clearly dysfunctional style.

Missed this game due to work and other commitments.

Kind of on the cards after the game last week wasn't it.

Thing's still not quite right it seems.

Why not try for Ounahi ? He's exactly the type of the midfielder that we needed this game, someone who not afraid of going forward and can dribble well. I hate seeing Leicester getting him.

Brentford played like we did 2seasons ago

There's a lazy kind of laid back arrogance about this team and it's typified by Thiago's look at me style of play. Very difficult to shake off that mentality. Started creeping in last season.

When was the last time we blew teams away in the first 15-20 minutes. Mentality monsters...mmm..

You'll win nothing with a non functional midfield.

Liverpool have conceded 51 big chances this season, according to Opta. That is more than twice as many as the five teams above them in the Premier League table. Massive issue.

Just picking a few of the comments that resonate with me.  We have lost the desire, the energy, the will to fight.  A few years back, nobody would have argued that we had the most talented sude, but we were the hardest team to play against due to the way we worked, both individually and as a group.  All that is gone now.  We need a handful of new faces who are the blue collar like -- the ones who will run through brick walls for the team.  We honestly remind me of Arsenal in the last handful of seasons -- soft and easy to play against....

When we gave Salah the monster deal we destroyed any blue collar mentality. Because we gave the guy that does work the least on the pitch the most money.

Be careful what you wish for.  Are FSG the reason Nunez £80m has scored 5 out of 59 reasonable chances, are FSG the reason our midfield play in a way that they score about 8 goals a season between them.  Are FSG to blame for building two state of the art stands taking the capacity from 45,000+ to 61,000 +. Are FSG the reason Virgil has lost the ability to defend?

As you point out, there are many problems, but the lack of investment from our owners is one of the problems.  Look at our net spend the last 10 years compared to the other big clubs in England.  It was inevitable that our luck (an amazing transfer record for several seasons in a row) would run out at some point....

Our transfer record wasn't luck. Klopp sold assets for good money and brought in the players whom could play the way he wanted to play. We worked smart in the market because we had to ... which wasn't a bad thing.

The problem now is that he's no assets left to sell to raise himself some spends and the team is ageing with a number leaving on free transfers it seems.

So with no money coming in for them he isn't going to have alot of options to replace them. We still haven't replaced wijnaldum.

We've become that annoying team that play like sh*t week in week out and every time we lose someone from the squad (usually Robbo) will come out and say its not good enough we need to do better. Then nothing changes.

Yeah but they're the ones who put the club up for sale so like them or lump them it's a cloud hanging over us. Until we are bought out, invested in or taken off the market its another ? hanging over the club.
