We clearly have a gem in Bajcetic

He moved up last night into the more advanced role and was very comfortable with it

His pressing and energy is superb , he times his tackles and interceptions very well and when he gets on the ball he isn’t afraid to go past someone or ping it to the feet of a wide player. Will be interesting to see if he can start to put in the through balls as well

With Henderson and Fabinho behind providing protection to the back four it was the best I have seen the midfield play

You could see as the game went on that Gomez and Matip felt more at ease and the whole team pushed up more - TAA was very good covering as well

Some of those lads stepped up in a huge game for us

A few observations: when the RIGHT SIDE trio works : TAA-Henderson-Salah, the team does much better. I really think our issue has been that these dynamics have been unable to find their form and former connection. On the left, it's worse since there's no starter upfront yet.

When the midfield works, the team does well. It's not difficult to see. And I really think Thiago is very often more a liability than not.

I have had a serious observation: we score mostly on counter-attacks. And it's an issue because not all teams will allow us to play like that. Whenever a bus “parks the bus”, we're screwed.

Well yes Hendo has much more experience than Elliott but he's gone after 60 odd minutes. I think Thiago hasn't the mobility he once had and the Hendo, Fabinho,Thiago gig was...WAS...our best midfield for half a season or so but now they don't have the energy to play together.

Bajcetic did all the donkey work last night, closing down, can pick and time a tackle, win it and pass. Gives an ageing midfield the energy of youth. Be hard to drop him now.

Newcastle will give us more chances to counter with pace and Nunez will play a vital role. We go there with renewed confidence.  Still one win doesn't count for much and we need to build on it.

F**k, actual energy! Sustained for 90 minutes as well. Bajcetic, Nunez, Gakpo, Robbo and Mo all played very well. Fab and Matip still looked shaky, but the team as a whole put in a shift and totally dominated for the entire match. Good to see Jota back and Virg on the bench. Take that energy into the Newcastle game and I fancy us to win it.

      Henderson set the tone.
Bajetic is majestic, we need a song for him.
      Nunez was good.
Fullbacks played with bravery instead of being cautious.

Loved it, pretty tame Derby and atmosphere in ground was ok....

      Let's beat Newcastle.

our best performance so far in this fragmented season

We did okay in the Bournemouth home game and put some decent CL group stage performances in. However it may be our best performance of 2023 but even that's a low bar.

Look you can cheer yah tits off against one of the poorest teams in the league and act like a little boy who has seen a win but when you are an adult we can maybe discuss in depth!

Keep digging fella, soon you’ll disappear up your own rectum, it may have escaped your notice but most on here think your a tit, no f**ker has been cheering us of late, far from it, most have taken our fu**ed up season on the chin, took the inevitable sh*te from rival fans, but still,  no one, no one moans and f***in bitches like you do, it’s f***in constant, every game we’ve played in almost every campaign good or not so good, there you are whinging and f***in moaning,

From Hodgeson which truth be told was warranted, but Rafa to Klopp in every season of every game your negativity shines thru, now I can’t be arsed trawling thru all those seasons posts but, you do more often than not have posted sh*te regarding our own, that’s the general consensus of what you may think is contributing to the good spirited banter and humour of this particular forum, well, here’s the truth of it fella, and I’m sorry to jizz all over yer pancakes but, you have the charisma of a brick, your the polar opposite of our Brilliant manager, and if he managed this forum I’d doubt you’d last five minutes,

You must be so sad and lonely, longing for JW to hand JĂŒrgen his P45, and you won’t settle until JĂŒrgen fucks off and we’re left with the Woy’s of this world, then you’ll have carte Blanche on the Neg head channels!!!

Your probably right JD, but that was so long ago it feels like last season, hence alluding to fragmentation, we’ll never know for sure but, I still think we will have struggled this campaign World Cup or not, it didn’t help obviously but, we weren’t the only club side who had players at the WC, fact is, we’ve ran out of legs for the intensity we train and play at, have stagnated in the transfer windows, and JĂŒrgen’s loyalty has hindered rather than helped, add all that together, mix it with the outdated and hated ‘Only spend what you generate’ mantra, its easy to see why we’re lagging behind those who we should be dining with, at the top table !!

there were two Mo's last night the one before the goal, awful out of touch and the one after the goal Mo back to his best in his movement and touch it was like a spell had been lifted it was so good to see him smile again.
I was also surprised to see the pace of Gakpo and again after that goal he looked a different player . With Bobby,Jota and Virgil back and hopefully Diaz soon as well its all to play for . We look energised last night as apposed to the heavy legged team that has been feeling sorry for itself this season now Newcastle is another great chance to build on last night before the RM game which is another game that should see us really up for it

you'll read comments from a lot of top players over the years about how hard it is to play well when things for their team aren't going right. Reminds how important mental/emotional strength is for these players to excel over a season or career. Yes they have lives most of us can only dream of, but the pressure they face, especially in a culture like England's, is very real. Hopefully we see more of the improvement you describe going forward.

Yeah. Best of 23. City at home was our best of the season. Since then it kind of felt like it was our last stand as such. We were good in the charity shield as well against city.

No, I've seen it all. I'm talking about supposed "red" Coady swearing in the face of Robertson.

VVD and the rest were class.

The only thing about this that surprises me is that some Everton player didn't use the occasion to put his cleats to one of ours. Also too bad Pickford didn't get a little bit closer to Virgil for a "remember me" moment from Virgil. But Virgil has a big game this weekend.

Some very good performances last night, Bajcetic, Henderson, Nunez, Gakpo, Robertson and Mo.
Dyche thought his team would boss our midfield but Bajcetic had other ideas and Henderson finally woke up. Now we need to keep it going and really get our top 4 challenge on track.
