Under the lights at Anfield Champions League...Heaven on Earth. We will most likely need a couple of goals to the good to take to their place. Hoping this isn't the last CL game at Anfield this season......I fear it might be some time before we're in it again.

nobody giving us any chance over two legs and Trent is going to get destroyed...... so all the experts say at least ah just the way we like it. We owe these cu*ts and their blueshite manager and I really think the lads will want to show the world how good they are .

Against Real is the one time i go LondonRed and expect the worst. They have our number having beat us 3x in the CL.

Coming off 2 strong wins it'll be as good momentum as we've had all season. .

Obviously no away goals rule so Carlo will park the moped. So with that in mind Jota might be the fox in the box. Won't get many breakaways as they'll so deep the halfway will be a distant blur.

So if Darwin doesn't make it Jota should start and even if Nunez does start Jota might get the nod over Gakpo.

think we will stick with the front three that started against Newcastle they are F***ing scary going forward at pace . If Darwin isnt fit the Jota is just as effective  especially pressing their defenders. I just want to really F**k these over we owe them.

Be interesting to see if Klopp has anything up his sleeve. Carlo seems to have his number a bit as of late. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing us park the bus a bit to start the game and see if we can hit them on the counter. Play a bit ugly for awhile and make it a physical game. Are Virg, Trent and Joe up for that?

he has been dismissive of us tactically so I am more than confident Jürgen is ready for this and if he thinks tactically seeing Mo,Darwin and Cody baring down on them is tactically inept I cant wait for tomorrow. I had good feelings about Everton and Newcastle and the same for tomorrow these lads have been through something together and have come out the other end stronger.

Should hold our own at Anfield and they have not exactly been pulling up trees recently.

It’s the away leg that could be the decider, got to make sure it’s tight going to the Bernabeu.

Looks like kroos and Touchemeni have not travelled.

Jota can get on the end of Robbo's slanted cross and he's slippery in the box. Will play a part even if he doesn't start. In this game we will need bodies in the box, so if Nunez doesn't make it I'd go Jota over Bobby.

Bobby might be a consideration as the midfield link, just off the front 3..Fab, Hendo and Bajcetic...any 2 of 3. Matip in for his forward thrusts, alongside VVD.

Ali, Trent,Matip,VVD,Robbo,...Fabinho,Hendo,...Bobby...,Mo,Jota,Gakpo.....assuming Nunez doesn't make it.

Nah...the past has no bearing. We are coming into form. We can get a good result. I'm looking for 3-1. Pressure them from the off. No reason why we can't turn them over.

Benzema and Valverde top players. Val in particular. Have him here like a shot. Modric in mid. Alaba to take on Mo. They'll be deep no matter who they start. It will be a lock picking excercise. Rudiger is a top defender. They'll be up for it and Carlo, the sly old fox won't be fooled by our relatively poor form. He knows what to expect.

A lot riding on it for both clubs. Our form has ticked up, theirs has slightly dropped. I reckon a draw or narrow win wouldn't be beyond us seeing as it's a home European night. The template here is Juventus 04/05. Virgil volley at the back post, Mo looping volley from outside the box, cue mayhem in the Kop.

nice to have so many attacking options midfield will need Hendo and Fab at their best and our young man Bajcetic will once again look like he has been playing for a decade or more

We did indeed, I was at that game and it was brilliant.

We just need a solid win to take back to Madrid, we need everyone to be up for this and just like the bitters game the other Monday when the kop was in full flow, we all know what European nights are like at Anfield and the place needs to be buzzing, Jürgen will have them fired up for sure.

Strongest team possible, gotta be, great chance to get a bit of revenge on these.

Come on you mighty redmen, full heart and soul into this one.

We'll have spells of proper pressure against these tomorrow but we're going to need to be clinical because I don't see us keeping a clean sheet in either leg. It was poor finishing that cost us the final last year so need to right that wrong.

I think the fact that Jota was so good against City at Anfield earlier this season means he should start this one.

I will say we need to be extra clinical. Why?

      1) They are incredibly efficient. As we all know in the recent final. They had 4 goal attempts all game versus our 24. Ancelotti knows this and is more than happy to sit and wait for the right chance. They will not take the game to us like City or other teams.
      2) Their movement and transition is very good. Even with the goal attempts we had, they still had almost 50% of the ball. Vital we score first, otherwise I fear they will just pass around us and draw fouls if they score first.

A draw is not a bad result, though we are capable of winning. Second leg is going to be a nightmore, but we must make it a nightmare for them, at Anfield first.

And P.S. Jürgen - instruct our players to close down Valverde if hes in shooting range.  8)

We will fight for real and it‘s on Anfield, so we will grind out a 2-1 win. If we get outplayed by Madrid, like 0-2, it would be a proof we need a genuine rebuild & self-scout, incl. coaching stuff.

      NB: Team no longer available

Updated the Teambuilder because I forgot Bajcetic was originally in as a defender.

Touchemeni and Kroos out. Whisper it quietly but we should actually win tonights midfield battle.

Modric knows exactly how to handle us

They still have Modric who is key to their midfield

Have a buddy in work who is an RM fan. Has been complaining for last while about how bad RM are, how they don't have a striker, a left back etc etc. They have won most of their recent games though, but he still thinks they need to go all out and get Bellingham in the summer.

If we weren't coming into this off the back of 2 good wins, would not be confident at all. But we are, which is huge, puts some pep in the step.
We have a bad recent record against these, can't argue that - but anything can happen over two legs and tonight need the crowd to roar us on.

      Can't wait :)

Vinícius Jr vs Trent = Disaster!

Trent has improved drastically and I hope that I am right in this one.

We can win it if we play as a team and take our chances.

We can’t afford a slow start that’s for sure.
Need to get straight in to these, put them under pressure, finish our chances, and don’t let up.

Just don’t overdo the subs Jürgen. 1 or 2 at a time.
Too many at once seems to unsettle us for a while, giving teams a foothold..

3-0 for me, think we’ve turned the corner now, and will only get better.

No wins in the last six games against Madrid.  We might well have a bit of a thing with this competition but Madrid's is even bigger than ours.

Posted this in the the tickets thread but thought I'd fire it in here too, more chance of someone seeing it. As I say it's a big ask but I told him I'd ask about.

Zero chance but I said I would ask for him.

A mate of mine is over for the match tonight and been let down last min for tickets.

Anyone know of any spares going?

2 finals 2 with Brendan and Covid empty stadiums so this will be the first time a full Anfield Crowd gets to back the lads for some time.
I prefer our 08/09 last 16 games result home and away wins.

Only been to one European night at Anfield.  I reckon people are starting to mill about, outside the ground now.

F**k physical, them cheating bas**rds will be diving all over the place.
Hit them hard in the press in their own box so we don’t concede free kicks around our box.
