This one doesn't hurt too bad because this has been secondary in my brain. In inevitable if you will. I knew we weren't gonna win # 7, so my mindset is push for top 4 and pray we get there. In all honesty this may be a blessing? I mean there was a scenario in my head of pushing deep into this tournament and crashing out and losing focus on the league and seeing us finish mid table.

Now all we have is the league. Lick your wounds, pick yourself up, and win on Saturday

We were in the game until that shocking 3rd goal - no idea how the hell they allowed him so much space at that set piece.

Who is going to finance the rebuild?

There is a reason he has to hold onto players well past their best.
Klopp has said this is a big summer and we will spend.

We can't keep being crazy and playing the same guys over and over again and expecting different results. We aren't that good atm and surely even FSG can see that

The contrast between how Madrid handled conceding 2 goals including a howler compared to how we handled it was staggering really. We are absolutely miles apart and apparently this Real side isn't even as good as last seasons one.

All about damage limitation over there now.

Haven't felt this low for a long time. Not even Villa's 7-2 hammering because that was just one weird season. But this? I mean, where do we go from here? It's not even as if we can look to the owners to fund a rebuild. They practically said so themselves when they came out and said they were looking for investors.

Not sure how many Bajcetics we have at the club but I'm betting it isn't enough.

After the second leg, at least we won’t have to play them again for a while as we ain’t competing at the level for a good few years yet.

On a positive note I think this defeat will make us better, when Jürgen and the players watch this back they can only learn from a masterclass from Real. Things like shape, tempo, defensive frailties, cohesion and individual errors should all come out in the open.

Hopefully all this will make us better and at least we won't play them every week.

Jürgen needs to be ruthless with some of our ageing players as well, we all know who they are.

8 months ago we went toe to toe with them and were probably the better team only to be denied by a brilliant goalkeeper. its just sad to see how far we've fallen off since then.

For sure. And Joey just rooted to the ground after giving up the ser piece encapsulates him in a lot of ways. Physically talented (albeit a lot of that ruined by injuries) but thicker than a ham sandwich. I love the kid, but his footballing brain is basic at best

We hear it every spring - Klopp to be given war chest, Liverpool plan big summer etc etc

Never happens and it won't start this summer.

Clearly the relatively easy 2 goal start led us into a false sense of security. We dropped off, the intensity wasn't there. Ordinarily you can coast through to half time but RM are no Ordinary team.

Their second goal killed us and in the second half we just capitulated. Yes it was a free header but we've been giving away free headers all season.

Where do we go from here - Crystal Palace that's where..

without CL football our budget is going to be capped so Bellingham is just folly even if he would come here without CL football

      We started so well…

Completely capitulated in the second half though. Bigger picture being that we still showed signs of improvement in places. Gomez a big part of the second half capitulation but no excuses we turned off.

I think the moment when we’re 2-3 down (I think) and Darwin goes up for a header and gets shoved in the back and completely misses the ball and we DON’T get a penalty, then they score another quickly after that was the icing on the cake. Given the penalty and score from it, the mentality shifts again and the game is completely different. Was a foul in my eyes all day long…

Over the last couple of seasons we could have bought anyone.  Now we're going to have to be much cleverer in the transfer market, and it's going to probably cost us more.

This is the price of not investing properly in the squad when you are at your peak.  Instead we are praying for 18 year olds to fill gaps, still handing out year extensions to James Milner and it's been clear for some time that Henderson can barely play twice a fortnight never mind twice a week.  Joe Gomez hasn't been high quality for about 4 years.  Lots to do.

Be interesting to see how they get on with their £20M transfer budget.

Defense will get the blame, but our midfield makes defending even more difficult. Happened in the Newcastle game.
