Great commentator. Has sadly passed away today aged 77

Motson covered 10 World Cups, 10 European Championships and 29 FA Cup finals for BBC Sport before retiring from the organisation in 2018.

Popularly known as 'Motty', he had worked on Match of the Day since 1971.

      John Motson

Best ever commentator for me. Grew up listening to him.

RIP John and thanks for the memories.

Still remember his line from the first goal in the replayed game with Forest after Hillsborough as with all the emotion he referred to Barnes as Johnny Barnes rather than John Barnes.

Or the more simplistic "Dalgish, Rush, goal!!"

The thing that came through most with Motson was his passion for the game. I never felt like he was anything other than totally professional.

These days I listen to games with mute on ... I'd never do that with motty. That says everything about him and alot about the likes of Tyler and all the other biased nomarks who are also just rubbish at the job.

Motty always came into his own on cup final day ... last game of the season ... 3pm at the old Wembley. It was a privilege to listen to him.

      Rip motty.
