I think Umbro may be checking their trademark status from the 60's.

I mean that's literally perfect. If it didn't have the Standard Chartered logo all over it I'd pay whatever they were asking.

Was it 02 or 3 when they last had a white round neck ? I can just imagine Cheyrou and his volley against Chelsea.

Also the year before the treble as well

The one I remember was Owen and his hat-trick against Newcastle in 98.

That’s a pretty decent home shirt.
I still love my collared 2012/13 red home shirt, the warrior brand one.

Or the v-neck, which if just plain white actually looks alright but we had this obsession with throwing green on our kits in the 90s.

The white v neck will always stick in the mind from the late 70’s onwards

I have a question about kit (specifically shirts). So Standard Chartered gives us a shitload of money to put their names on the front of our game shirts. That makes sense. They say "We'll provide your game-day gear if you put our name on it so we can advertise our bank". That makes sense. If we didn't have a sponsor, then the club would have to pay for the shirts themselves.

But why if I want to buy a shirt (either the Nike high end game day shirt or the lesser expensive Nike replica) do I have to have Standard Chartered's logo on the front? They aren't paying me to advertise for them. In fact, I'm paying Nike for the shirt so why does Standard Chartered get free advertising? They aren't paying Nike?

Just one of those things that doesn't make sense to me. I'd actually be inclined to buy a top year in and year out if they would take the sponsor off of them. Just give me the top with the Liverbird (and Nike can leave their swoosh on there as well).

The reason SC have their name on the merchandise jersey. I would guess it's highly likely written into their contract with the club. If it's not legally binding the only other reason would be that it accurately mirrors the team shirt. Of course you are right in that SC are not paying you to advertise them...if anything, you are paying them.

Standard Chartered aren't paying millions to LFC just so they are advertised on 90 minutes of a match day. They are paying for the millions of fans who walk around advertising them.

Fans are both the customer and also the product.

Standard Chartered pay to have their name across every single shirt that’s printed not just the players

They pay millions to have millions of people displaying their company name and logo

Pretty sure on some of the fake sites like DHGate some of the sellers offer kits with or without the main sponsor, might look into it actually because that does look class.

Take away the Nike and Standard Chartered logos and it's perfect.
