Down 5-2 after the first leg. No away goals tiebreaker. Weekend off and then international break following this so next match isn't until April 1 vs. Man City.

Therefore I expect Jürgen will go with a strong lineup for this with the goal of a restored performance and winning the game. Any chance of drawing even on aggregate, however small, will have to be addressed in-game.

It's very unlikely, but players are paid handsomely and the supporters will be watching so we need to give it a true, professional, LIVERPOOL effort.

I just want to see a 90 minute effort from the boys that are picked to start and those who are subbed in. That is all. Play for the shirt! I’ll be happy with that.

I wont be surprised to see us pulling one out the bag here.

But I suspect we may win on the night but go out by the odd goal.

Would be an even bigger comeback than at home to Barca.
Didn't think that would happen, so can't write us off completely.

Not as bad as I thought. I’ve been brainwashed to believe that our starting point was 5-0. We’ve two goals and are in a better position than I thought. Maybe it was because we conceded five goals and I therefore thought that we are 5-0 down.

Our away win has been terrible this season and it don't expect it to improve at the Bernabeu.

Hopefully we don't get another hammering.  Be pretty grim if they end up with a 10 goal aggregate scoreline.

The Barca situation was very different - we were exceptionally unfortunate to get beat 3-0 away in that first leg.  This time round we were soundly beaten by Madrid in the first leg.

I'm sure at 1959 on Wednesday I'll believe we can get it done but at the moment I'm really struggling.

Just hoping we don't get embarrassed.

You're Barca call is bang on. I predicted we'd win 4-0 at Anfield, based solely on how we'd played over there. We created loads of presentable chances to score but bad luck etc.etc denied us. On the other hand they hardly created anything, but the few chances they had they scored. My theory was if we can create that many opportunities over there, then it stands to reason we'll create at least as many chances at our place. I thought we'd score 4 because we had to score 4, also they were unlikely to even try and score as they'd convinced themselves the tie was done. That's how it played out. Tomorrow is sadly a totally different challenge. I would be both astounded and overjoyed if it comes to pass.

Speaking of luck against Barca, i remember late in the away game Dembele was all by himself by the penalty spot basically 1v1 with Alisson and shot it right at him which would have made it 4-0. That goes in and the best comeback in history probably doesn't happen.

We (the fans) don't really need to believe, as long as Jürgen and the players do.

Honestly, I'm just looking for small victories.  A clean sheet.  A well worked team goal.  Energy, commitment, and desire.  Maybe even a victory on the night.  I'm not expect to go through, but there are still positives we can take from the match.

The sensible part of me says we’ll make a good account of ourselves, take the game to them, maybe get a goal or two back, but they’ll probably let us come out and play before killing us off with a counter attack in the last ten mins, so I’m up for  1-2 victory and we’ll see you again next season, the silly tw*t side of me however has us getting off to a flier, 2 up with 25 mins, and 3 up by HT, WELCOME to the party if that comes to fruition,

It’s any fuckers by then and we could see the equivalent of a basketball end to end fu**ed up winner takes all, loser gets F**k all type of deal, winner winner chicken f***in dinner !!

But I just checked and the score is indeed 2-5.  ;D

Yep, no comparison at all let's be honest. It will be a result if Real fail to increase the aggregate scoreline. I suppose we can feel a bit of freedom going into this as not a lot to lose. Good opportunity for the younger boys to experience a European night at one of the great cathedrals of football (however unlikeable they are as a club). Fireworks from Nunez, multiple headbutts, 3 red cards, miss the Europa conference thing next season, who knows?

A good ploy might be to play the first half as if we are not up to the fight, not too much phyisical effort. They won't put too much in with a 3 goal credit. Half time 0-0. THEN come out all guns blazing and just attack with fury. 2 quick goals and they'll get nervous...but we keep going...third....fourth. ..they've gone.

Set The Doak on them, Bobby in the hole. Trent in mid. Hendo in back 4 with Konate, Hence:

      Alisson,.. Milner,Konate,Hendo,Robbo... Fabinho,Trent...Bobby...Doak,Mo,Nunez,

Be 3-0 up before Carlo works it out....for us..not them..

      NB: Team no longer available

I would play very low-block team.

I would put Gakpo deeper and put Jota in the middle.

      We need goals.

Since Hendo is out with an illness, I would put Elliott or Jones. Please not Milner.

Honest to God, I predicted in work after the Man U game that we'd probably get beaten at Bournemouth but go through in Madrid, they'll think they'll only need to turn up to go through.

Cant quite believe its 2023 and we're going to play James Milner at the Bernabeu in midfield (apparently) needs must i guess....

personally id play Gomez at rb so trent doesn't have to worry about Vinicius and Trent further forward (never gonna happen though)  why the F**k not, go for it.

There is a small chance indeed. If we do not play very high we have a chance to get one goal at some point and 0-1 gives us a shot to go.

Might as well go at it, hell for leather, 2 weeks off before City away. But have to chuck together a midfield. Fabinho, Milner and Bobby in the hole. Or Gakpo deeper just off Mo, Nunez and Jota.

Carlo won't be complacent, he takes these games personally.

Id go full on attack, we won’t play this way but I’d love to see…

                      Alisson
             Konate - Dijk - Matip
      Trent - Fabinho - Hendo - Robbo
              Salah - Jota - Nunez

Have Trent and Robbo not even thinking about defence, let Hendo or Fabinho cover when needed and just whip in cross after cross after cross for Jota and Nunez, both not too bad with their heads. And hopefully Salah can come inside a bit more with Trent constantly on the wing.

Hendo is on the sick. We need a strong right back otherwise Vini will run amok. Could play Milner (MBE) ar RB and put Trent in mid but the Boss is against trying that move. I mean if it doesn't work it puts Trent in limbo.

Think it'll be his normal 433. Might throw Bobby in just off the front 3 but I think containment is the name of the game.

F**k containment, go out on our shield I say!

Containment won't do anything for us IMO they will be happy for us to play that way.

We already conceeded 5 against them AT HOME, we should be going gung ho, if not just rest a bunch of players.

There will be no surprises in the way we setup or our tactical approach.  It will be 4-3-3 and we will look to press and counter-press early.  If we can nick an early goal then we will be in with a chance.  It may be a small chance, but still a chance.  If Madrid score even 1 goal it will be lights out, so we need to be at our best defensively.  I'll be crossing my fingers, but won't be holding my breath....

We all have that 10-2 in the back of.our mind if we're honest..I think Jürgen's goal of trying to win the game is a good one. But we're underdogs for even that.

I will say it.us a good thing that the away goals tiebreaker is gonzo. Always thought it was a dumb way to decide such important matches.

I cannot see us overturning a three goal deposit, but stay calm, try not to concede and score a couple of goals ourselves. Otherwise pretend we are playing Man United, that is the best option to my mind !

No Hendo or Baj.  Milner has to come into the middle. With Fab.  Then Elliot 3rd midfielder.
      Nunez/Salah/Gapko up front.

Tbh, think we'll be doing well to avoid getting beat again.

I think you are simply being realistic, especially the scale of the huge task ahead tonight !

General consensus seems to be...'lets go for it'. I mean not throwing caution to the wind but be positive from the off. If we nick one in the first ten minutes it might just start them twitching.

Carlo knows what we can do. Istanbul, the Barca Ballard, the United demolition ..who knows. We all know it's a long shot but nothing ventured etc..

Containment will kick in if they score first.

Not heard any updates on Diaz or Thiago for this game ( would be great to have Diaz ,Gakpo,Salah and Nunez  as a front 4 ) An uphill task tonight and I remain ever optimistic ,Madrid might just have a bad game in them ?

Also we were playing much much better at the time and far more consistent than currently.

This is very different to the barca game unfortunately. We are away and against our bogey team. I'm convinced we can score goals but I just cannot see us keeping a clean sheet.
