If it's not the CL then I'd take a year out of Europe and really focus on the rebuild of this squad.

      Maybe that's the plan  ;)

      I disagree…
Are we that entitled as a club that we think we are too good to play in anything other than the champions league?

I want us to win the Europa conference league! To be the first club to have won all three existing European trophies!
To play teams from nations I’d never heard of.
I’m just not fussed about champions league. The obsession of qualifying for it are absurd and another reason why trophies are put second to the pound signs.

I mean, some poster just said they can’t believe I would be happy to finish 7th and qualify for Europe….. yet another poster would rather we finish lower (presumably) so not to qualify for Europe just so we can challenge for top 4 the season after.

Can you imagine if shankly said “come on lads, we can’t win the league so let’s finish as low as we can so we don’t qualify for Europe.”

Or if he said “if you are first you are first, if you are second you are nothing, but let’s try and grab 4th next season.”

I’m saying if we finish 7th and qualify for the europa conference league we should still head into next season with hope.
I won’t find it embarrassing. I think for many players it will be a reality check.

But this obsession  over money and prize money and champions league money is what makes football crap.

You’ll be a minority on this one with your fellow fans Bob. The reason why you’d be playing teams you’ve never heard of is for that very reason most Liverpool fans won’t want that, even I wouldn’t if we somehow imploded  and finished in it.

You’re right about Shanks though, sadly times have changed so much I’m not sure you’ll ever see managers like him again. Some players do need a reality check but the conference cup would be worse than winning the Championship Div 1.   :D

Nope but I think where we're at a season out of Europe, if we miss CL, is better than slogging through the Europa or Conference for little gain.

If we weren't in the middle of a rebuild, that isn't exactly showing signs of much promise, then I'd be all out to play in Europe but sometimes circumstances mean it could be more beneficial in the long run to miss out.

Things aren't always black and white in football.

But….. if the Europa conference league had a billion pound prize money everyone would be trying to finish 7th.

It’s not about winning anymore is it? The domestic cups aren’t taken seriously by most because the prize money is low. Top 4 is everything.

I’m glad I’m in the minority.

But the Europa conference league could be a trophy. Nothing gels a rebuild than a piece of silverware.
If we finish top 4 this season would you consider missing out on the champions league because that would be a slog? No. Because it’s about the money.

For me, if you don’t finish first then you should go for every other cup you can. Not bin off every trophy for a top 4 finish.

If you've followed me much on here mate you'll know I'm all about winning whatever we can. The League Cup is a favourite of mine for example.

But sometimes, and just sometimes, the bigger picture has to be looked at.

Next season is one of those times for me.

      Fair enough.
I love the league cup as well. I just think winning breeds winning and preferring to finish 8th over 7th is something I can’t get my head around.

I agree and if it happens or happens. I wouldn't want us to aim to finish lower mate just that it might not be the worst thing in the world if we miss out.

Also, the competition could be a good thing in giving players like doak and other kids game time. But like you said, whatever happens happens.

You finish where you deserve to finish, and wherever that is you qualify for the competition that corresponds. If Liverpool are playing in the Intertoto-eurobash and it's on the telly, then I'll watch them.

I still can't believe that Gundogan goal.

It was a training drill for them and we were the red F***ing cones!!!

That was the most embarrassing thing I have seen from this bunch in a long, long time.

That should be on a non stop video reel in the change rooms. They should be ashamed of that!!!

Might make them finally pull their collective fingers out!!!

The new system quite aggro I prefer old system but suppose you could put that down to old school.  :lmao:  I’m playing today 1pm with my son and if I survive that which is doubtful playing a handicap card tomorrow. Think they will give me roundabout 14/15 handicap once I’ve done my 3 cards.  ;D

The amount of games  - going for everything last season killed the squad.

I kind of agree with SRS in maybe missing out on Europe might allow us to have a full crack at the league again.

Where will that leave us with our summer budget? They're tight enough when we've won it all can you imagine when we won't have the same revenue coming in?
