      Ballon D’Or 2023
      May 09, 2023 09:39:04 pm
Just looking at the market for this years Ballon  D’or and I see yet again Messi odds on fav to win. 😱😱😱 What I can’t work out is why? Haaland & De Bruyne should be first and second favs by a country mile. Messi done nothing this year compared with these two, he’ll I wouldn’t even have him on the list.

Personally I can’t split the two. Who do you fancy to win it?

So you base it just on the World Cup ? A handful of games? I might be wrong but I’ve always based it on a season? Is my thinking the wrong way? Think must of would agree we thinks there’s bias goings on anyway?

So you think he deserves to win it then as you’ve not really said?

Exactly and that tells you its own story. Too much emphasis is put on the World Cup. Let’s me honest the likes of Norway ever winning one are zilch so Haaland no chance if that’s the case. Not that I mind, I just don’t think it’s fair. Not forgetting it’s fixed too.    ;D

This is the problem isn’t it, it’s so hard for anyone to have morals when such vast amounts of money are involved in enticing players of all sorts and not just those in their swan song years. I don’t think it’s much different for fans ( apart from getting the ££ ) wanting owners that will spend spend spend to get the top players in and not blink at the monies involved. All we get as fans ( hopefully) is our team doing well in the domestic league & CL. Not much to ask for is it when we put it into prospective.  Players get the luxury of life, we get smiley faces 😂

When Ronnie went there, heard about if for about 2 weeks. Never heard of him again.

These guys just taking the cash and then fading away into obscurity. Greedy cu*ts.

Well it certainly isn't need by any stretch of the imagination. It's more an illness; Acute Greed....it's an addiction, and the Saudi's are happy to feed it with their bottomless pit of $.

I prefer it when they pay out lots of money for old, past their best players to join small clubs in Saudi. If Ronaldo, Messi, Benzema, etc want to go there and earn 100s of Millions for exhibition games it's understandable. Hopefully, they will focus less on buying uk clubs and distorting the competition in premier league and European competitions.

Unfortunately, they will probably do both.

Not in a million years for me.

There's an argument to be had that Messi and Ronaldo have consistently been picked for this on reputation alone over the last few years.

Messi didn't make the 30-man shortlist last year.  CR7 did, but he didn't get a single vote, and I'll be very surprised if he makes the shortlist this year.

scored about the same as Salah in his first season as Salah didn't take penalties and we all know we win the Champions League if Salah hadn't been assaulted in the game.   They didn't give it to Salah him lets see if they will give to halaand.

yeh that was the year we won big ears and VVD was in the middle of his 18 month run in which no one went passed him.  Their pets ronaldo and messi the whole lot tried.  I've never seen a defender like that in my life.   Barca come back messi crying like school girl and they give it to him.  Like Keith says its a corrupt award.

Ach, who actually gives a F**k, it’s corrupt as the fuckpigs that vote for it, we all know where it’s likely to be going too but it won’t be a EPL player despite being the best league in the world with the best players in the world playing in it, if I did give a F**k, I’d probably go for Gundogan, he for me won Shitty’s recently title purchase, the player was immense, and would be a very worthy winner, if indeed it was worthy of winning!!

Surprise surprise! Messi wins another Ballon d’Or. 🤦‍♂️ It’s so rigged it’s embarrassing, what has he done over the last year to even be in the running.

He did that for sure, however, he’s not exactly done much else has he. He’s been pretty dormant all year apart from that.

Far too much emphasis on the World Cup for me Pj. I know it’s a part of it but it’s once every 4 years. I’d much rather see the winners coming from the best domestic teams in the world. After all, that’s where the best players are.

Well deserved messi, finally winning that elusive WC was the clincher.

End of an era now, himself and ronaldo wont win these again.

Some people  go on about needing to produce it in a World Cup to get the status for winning the Bent Ballon D’Or is bullsh!t. feck sake it’s every 4 years unlike the domestics be it here or in Europe which is every year. We all know if favours those who play in La Liga.

Not forgetting (( Haaland as an example)) will never win a World Cup because Norway don’t have the surrounding players to make that possible, they never even qualified.

We know Messi has produced it year in, year out and has won Ballon D’Ors on merit but not this one. Tell me what he’s done outside a competition that comes around every 4 years Over the last 12 months?

For the record he still didn’t do it in the hardest league in football and when he did was surround by world class players. Do I think he could have done it in the Premier league? Yes I do, BUT HE DIDN’T so that will always leave food for thought. Ronaldo did it in all the best league and certainly wasn’t surrounded by world class players all his life.

Deserves to be in the make up but doesn’t play in La Liga. Bellingham will be given it next year.

In a Euros season, form at the finals next summer will play a big part.  So if Bellingham were to repeat the form he showed at the World Cup in 2022, and continues to perform so well for Real Madrid, he'll definitely be a contender for the 2023-24 award.

Pretty sure you’ve made numerous posts in the past that he can’t be considered the greatest ever cos he never had a World Cup to his name.

Now he does and apparently that’s no barometer cos it’s once every four years.

You’ll have to go in the archives of my post to find that one as I don’t remember. What I have said many times he’s never played in the best/hardest league in the world. I’ve also said even though never played in Premier league would probably still of been successful. However, he hasn’t and throughout his career he’s been surrounded by world class players more than any player I know, obviously that helps. 😉
