Liverpool in talks to sign Bundesliga midfielder for €40-45m

Liverpool have reportedly entered talks to sign Manu Kone from Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach, in a deal that could cost €40-45m.

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on the 22-year-old Frenchman but Jürgen Klopp’s team appear to be leading the race.

According to German outlet Bild, Liverpool have been in contact with Kone’s representatives and have expressed their interest in a summer transfer.

Kone has registered 31 appearances for Borussia Monchengladbach this season, who finished 10th in the Bundesliga.

Borussia Monchengladbach want €40-45m for Kone, who is under contract until 2025, while the German club have the option to extend his deal for a further year.

It is believed that Borussia Monchengladbach want to use the fee they receive for Kone to help fund moves for new players in the summer window.

It could be a busy summer for Liverpool, who have been linked to several players as they look to return to the top four after a disappointing 2022-23 campaign.

The Reds are looking to bring in two central midfielders this summer after withdrawing from the race to sign Jude Bellingham.

Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister is expected to swap the south coast for Anfield and they have also opened talks to sign Nice’s Khephren Thuram – although the the deal could be complicated by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s potential takeover of United.

Liverpool had been linked to Chelsea’s Mason Mount but it appears that United are now favourites to land his signature

I've done a bit of digging on the lad in the customary youtube clips and he looks like he can break up play and then break with the ball by dribbling through the lines.

Just off the 3 min clip.. looks a player.

Will he have a crack at goal?

Mac Allister scored 12 goals last season, quite good considering he often plays as a CM (and even a bit of a DM on occasions) instead of AM.

One caveat though, apparently half of those goals were from penalties. Good luck to him taking the ball off Salah's hands when we get one! :D

Hes got too surely. Mo has become more miss than hit from the spot the last 18 months. Taken to just smacking them central now and hoping for the best.

Is he any good, or just another prospect? Gladbach finished like 10th in the Bundesliga.

Sunderland finished 10th when we signed Henderson, Hoffenheim were 8th the season before we signed Firmino, Hull City finished 18th when we got Robertson, Southampton were 13th when they sold us van Dijk and Wolves finished 7th before selling us Jota. You get the idea

Bang on this. Being an oldie, I remember Bob bought Souness from Middlesborough who were doing nothing at the time. Didn't follow them but they may have been relegated the same season.

"World Soccer" magazine has picked 9 players to watch at the Euro U21 finals.

One of them is Manu Kone, and it says this about him:

"The midfield force of nature is just one of many talented French youngsters who have reaped the benefits of a stint in the Bundesliga. The former Toulouse starlet, now in his second season in Germany, is not only an indefatigable athlete and aggressive ball-winner, he is also superb in construction, always ready to destabilise the opposition with a through ball or solo spurt".

Sounds like the kind of non-stop workaholic that Klopp looks for in his midfielders.

I've not seen him play before but having watched a few highlights (vs different teams  every touch) he looks like a cracking prospect. He looks busy, likes a tackle, gets around the pitch, strong and has some skill too. VERY RAW but given the budget he looks the sort of player we should be going after. I'dbe pretty excited if this one came to fruition.

Scan will determine extent of knee injury.  He tried to continue playing but was forced off soon afterwards. Was seen using crutches when boarding team bus.
