Maybe the release clause had a tighter payment structure.
Could be an attempt to spread out payments of a similar amount.
Guess we'll find out soon enough.

You are probably right, usually release clause has to be paid up front. We know FSG aren't keen on that, but after the release clause expires, then they can charge whatever they want. Can't imagine they let him go for less and Newcastle being involved complicates things.

I remember reading an article a year or so ago Szoboszlai saying Klopp was the beat manager in the world.

Wouldnā€™t surprise me if they are looking to negotiate payment structure to the same amount as the clause

We seem to have a good relationship with them as well

When FSG back the manager and the club people will stop criticising them.

To be fair, if you don't respond then it just ends.

It takes two willing participants to have a disagreement. I sure as sh*t know this :D

Would be an absolutely brilliant signing IMO but am somewhat doubtful we will have the money.

I donā€™t think itā€™s the case of not ā€œhaving the moneyā€ - itā€™s more about the value of the transfer for them

Just a guessing game at the mo.
Love to see a couple or three more in a red shirt soon.

Liverpool have met with the representatives of RB Leipzig midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai; the 22-year-old has a Ā£60m release clause in his contract which is understood to expire on June 30; the Hungarian is also being heavily tracked by Newcastle

If this is the player Klopp wants then I would prefer we just activate the release clause before it expires and be done with it. I know this is not a viable regular/permanent M.O. as you are bound to overpay for some players because nowadays clubs insert release clauses that systematically overvalue players by a long shot, but I'd rather this than find ourselves competing with NewCastle.

The reason I say this is that the player reportedly wants us and would love to work with Klopp. However, in this day and age agents are very powerful and receive hefty payments that are not talked about as much as they should be. This is something that, as far as I know, flies under the FFP and other financial regulations radar and so is often the bread and butter of clubs like City and PSG (for instance check the details of the Haaland deal. Its not just BVB that got paid good money).

If we get into a fight with NewCastle hoping we can count on the player's preference to join us in order to seal a deal 10M or 15M below the current release clause then I think we'll lose because NewCastle will have no problem offering as much money as the agent wants in order to steer the player towards them and of course push the bidding war beyond what we can/are willing to pay.

Assuming this is the manager's no.1 choice then just pay the F***ing release clause and be done with it. Stop F***ing around like the last two summers and get it done.

The release clause would at least prevent a bidding war so you'd have to think it would make sense to work something
out between the two clubs over the next 24 hours if Liverpool are serious about the bid.

Obviously the flip side of that is how much of the release clause is required as payment up front.

If you want something that's in high demand, sometimes you have to pay a premium. If you aren't willing to pay a premium, then you didn't really want it that badly.

Almost looks more like a winger than a midfielder.

He played most of this season as a right winger actually, but played as a CAM most of the 21/22 season. Stylistically speaking he fits the bill when it comes to a JK player. On top of possessing all the offensive tool you'd want an attacking player to have, he is very good at winning the ball back up front which we've sorely lacked this season. If we do go for him you'll have to wonder where exactly he'll be fielded tho.

And what you want is to pay the lowest possible price and if not, pay nothing at all. Itā€™s my offer price or Iā€™m walking away. Then weā€™ll never get any deal done.

Sounds terrible. Like weā€™ve given up on our transfer stance. Penny pinchers.
