Fcuk me if we tried to sign a 3 legged donkey Chelsea would be in for him as well.

Can't see arsenal going for him with Rice onboard though they seem to like 2 for every position don't they these days and not one plus a square peg.

I don't know why it's taking so long. It sounds like we've admired since before Fab and Hendo sagas....just go and get the player, why are we F***ing about.

Needed to ensure the player was ok with whatever terms were agreed and thatā€™s only just been sorted

50m seems a bit excessive but I suppose the going rate is the going rate. There are times like these where I do wish we'd just pay the asking fee and move on, to stave off any chance of Arsenal or Chelsea trying to hijack affairs.

Just throw Ā£100m at Southampton. Itā€™s a piece of cake. And the deal is done.

Easy peasy. It takes only a few minutes in FIFA to go through all the transfers. It should be the same in real life.

Not one person has said that. Stop being an ass.

Presumably you've bought a car from a dealership before. Which way is the quickest and easiest way (ensuring you get EXACTLY what you want), paying sticker price or haggling for a few hours to get a better deal?

Looks like itā€™s prob going to be around Ā£40mil with some add ons to take it to Ā£50mil

Wonder what the hold up with the player was though

You'd rather we'd pay the asking price without trying to get a player cheaper?

Don't see any logic there at all.

Only worry for me is if Chelsea come in for him if they can't get the Caicedo deal done. I imagine they'll pay what Southampton want straight up and offer him more wages too. Also seems like United will be in for a DM after they've signed a striker.

Might be wise to move this one along and get it done before we get any competition for him.

I'd rather we get the player we (apparently) want without dicking around, possibly allowing other teams who may be willing to throw more money around to come in and disrupt the whole process. Getting a great deal is awesome, but getting the player that's wanted is really the main goal. If you have to pay a premium, so be it....consensus is our other two transfers were pretty good deals so it all evens out.

Unless there is a release clause every single club will negotiate for a player until they reach a happy medium- thatā€™s just basics

No problem with that...but they were never going to accept 37m (if that's what the bid really was) if they are holding out for 50m. Offer them 45m and 5m add-ons and they'd probably take it straight away. Deal done, get the kid in here and have him start training with the team asap.

But thatā€™s not negotiating thatā€™s giving them what they want right at the start

Yes and we get what we want without dicking around allowing Chelsea or Arsenal to start throwing around ridiculous numbers.

🤦ā€ā™‚ļø why on earth wouldnā€™t the club look to find somewhere in the middle between each clubā€™s valuation

Get both sides of the coin to be fair.

It is a sellers market at the minute though so players arenā€™t going to go for much less than what clubs are asking.

Also suspect itā€™ll be Ā£40m that we get for Fab with some add one around CL and PL titles and/or appearances.
