if we can get the midfield to give the CB's proper cover and also drive forward we are going to be F***ing on fire this season.

Defo! Heavy metal stuff to return and if we struggle defensively then weā€™ll just outscore most teams 💪🏼

The deal team knows full well what they are doing. The first bid at Ā£35m and made public, is to unsettle the player. Call it lowball and will be rejected. And when the player pushes for a move, his club is in hostage unless they play hardball. The deal will be wrapped by by the next bid, provided Chelsea doesn't trump us with a better offer.

Didnā€™t work with VVD though we ended up paying what they wanted.

They donā€™t need to sell him so hold more of the Aces than we do.

Well, the selling club can well afford to play hardball. At this stage if we walk away, I'm sure many of us would be upset. Being led into a genuine acquisition and only to end up with nothing, would be so anti-climactic.

Then the defending fans would come out with many reasons why this wasn't a suitable deal to start off with. I could write this script of either outcomes. Get it done or the above will likely happen.

We paid over the odds for VVD because of the illegal approach

How much do you think we should pay for Lavia before we should start walking away? What is the max threshold we should pay and beyond that, you'll think will not make sense?

Just wanted your opinion. I'm an acquire at all cost fan.

Dont know enough to judge - seems like a very exciting young player, whose numbers are good *for his age* though not necessarily spectacular by themselves. In any case these should improve at a better team.

Would expect him to take some time to settle though. Even Fabinho took months to become a starter and by then he was already a established UCL player.

No idea what you on about then, we paid what they wanted irrespective of annoying them.
Maybe they had a price and not willing to negotiate - it happens.

We paid over the odds for him - he would have gone for a good amount less in the summer if we had done it properly. Southampton added a little bit onto the fee because of the illegal approach as a compromise for not reporting the club

On the other hand, had we waited until summer that's more time for other clubs to identify his talent and get involved in the bidding. Don't think we could ever describe it as over the odds as he went on to become the no 1 CB in world football. Would we in hindsight rather have waited six months to potentially save Ā£10m? Nah

The market is just absolutely fu**ed. Especially after Chelsea paid 100m+ for Enzo who'd only had a good 6 months prior to the move. Means every club is demanding at least 50m for their midfielders which is fair enough. If Lavia is the right player then 50m or so seems like a decent price.

Just want him in and on the plane to Singapore because a couple more weeks with the team will make a massive difference.

If we have acted a little bit better we could off got the summer before for a good 10-15mil cheaper

We need Lavia + Thuram. We are losing 2 senior players.
