Liverpool agree deal to sign Wataru Endo from Stuttgart

Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Wataru Endo from VfB Stuttgart on a long-term contract, subject to international clearance and work permit application.

The Japan international will become the Reds' third signing of the summer after finalising personal terms and successfully completing a medical.

Endo will take the No.3 jersey for the club – and he's looking forward to starting the new chapter of his career at Anfield.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: "I'm very happy right now and I'm so excited to join a big club in Liverpool.

"It feels amazing and this is my dream. It's always [been] a dream to play [in the] Premier League and with one of the biggest clubs in the world. It's a dream come true for me."

Endo arrives after four seasons with Stuttgart, where he made 133 appearances and scored 15 goals after moving to Germany in 2019, initially on loan.

Prior to switching to Die Roten, the midfielder spent two seasons in Belgium with Sint-Truidense having established himself in Japan at Shonan Bellmare and Urawa Red Diamonds.

At international level, Endo has 50 caps for Japan and two goals. He made four appearances at the 2022 FIFA World Cup as his country reached the last-16 stage.

Endo added: "It's going to be the first time for me that I play at Anfield. I can't wait to play at Anfield in front of Liverpool fans.

"I play as a No.6 and I'm like a bit more [of a] defensive player. I think I can help this club defensively and I will have good organisation in the middle. I think that's my job.

"I am very excited to join this club and I am looking forward to seeing you at Anfield!"

Time will tell. The club have had a pretty dire 3-4 weeks in the market. I really hope this lad turns out be a steal that no one else had spotted. We certainly need him to hit the ground running. I still can’t work out if he is being brought into be the main man for the 6 shirt or whether another middie will follow him shortly.

Just happy we've brought someone in. He looks happy to be here so I'm happy. He's got a good rep in Germany and Jürgen is obviously sold on him so all good.

A dire 3-4 weeks on the market can become a great window in 1-2 weeks.

I only know what I’ve read from Germany, and he is highly thought of there and the fans are gutted he’s gone!
To me he’s more a Jürgen player than the other 2, Jürgen has always valued character as well as footballing ability, and he has that in spades. The more I read about the other 2, the more I thinkChelsea did us a favour!
Lavia says one of the reasons he chose Chelsea was the history!!!!!!!!The other 2 were money!

think its a cracking deal all round maybe staying away from doing deals with Prem teams is the way forward. Dont give a F**k about his age or his fee as long as he fills in that gaping hole we have been playing with for the last year.  Great game at Anfield against Bournemouth to start  for him
