This should be a real test of our new system because no doubt Newcastle at home are a tough nut, even away from home they don’t concede many goals.

Endo should come in for this one, you don’t sign 30 year olds to slowly bed them in and besides he will be needed as the Toon are a strong physical side with players like Joelinton.
Think we might have to play a bit more conservatively than our hung ho style meaning Robbo doesn’t go charging up on every attack.
They have pace up front on the counter.

Can’t see Nunez starting should be between Jota and Gakpo who leads the line.

      VVD
      Trent
      Konate
      VVD
      Robbo

      Endo
      Szobo
      Mac

      Salah
      Gakpo
      Diaz

Konate a doubt for the game. Confirmed by Klopp.
Thiago and Jones not back training until Monday.

Concerned that we will likely be without Ibou. He is getting too many niggles and knocks for my liking - he's fast turning into a Jones/Thiago!
Gomez/Matip don't fill me with confidence and our shaky defence becomes even shakier. Matip too slow and Gomez is - well - just Gomez! Might as well chuck in Quansah and see how he does.
We need a new CB - and QUICK!

Konate out. There's a surprise. As stated all summer he can't back up Saturday to Saturday never-mind a midweek game. This is why we need a centre half.

Matip will be the one to cover trent ... or maybe gomez as he's a tad quicker.

If start endo here instead of gapko and keep everything else the same.

F***ing ridiculous. One season riddled by injuries is ridiculous, two will be a F***ing farce.

We don't have that many injuries we just have a paper thin squad. We know already what Konate and Matip are like. It's not unlucky.

This season we are absolutely nailed on to struggle at the back and in midfield. Nailed on. I dont want to hearing about how unlucky we are when we have a squad so incomplete.

Some of the line ups we will end up fielding this season will give us 0 chance in matches.

3 in 4 seasons and a DM and CB still needed.
Thiago, Jones and Konate are great WHEN FIT,
but the issue is the availability.

Can't have a bare bones squad if 2 - 3 of your key players can't play a full season.

Guess the midfield picks itself. Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Endo.
Would like to see Gakpo moved up front with Diaz and Salah.

So why does it appear that we're not doing anything to rectify it? Talk is cheap - saying we need to strengthen and actually doing it are 2 entirely different things
We have the smallest squad in the PL - and before anyone says Klopp prefers small squads I bet he doesn't prefer having second rate substitutes when his first choice are injured. (Which they are with amazing regularity)

Ibou is well known to pick up injuries and more so now with the amount of space he has to cover.

Probably means Trent will have to stay back as no way Matip can do that role unless we want to break him as well.

Don't need Trent in midfield with Endo, Szobo and McAllister. I'd do back 4 as normal vs Newcastle. Robbo and Trent to break forward as they used to.

I mean…..of course, but also, we have money to spend, why are we not buying a CB?

And the first person to say ā€œthe right one isn’t availableā€ gets a banjo to the face.

At this point the right one is one that can stay healthy for I don’t know….4 or 5 games in a row 🙄

I love banjos, and my face has a healthy relationship with them, 🙃, so bring it f***in on FL, seriously I think we will bring one in, but we will wait until Jürgen gets his man, it’s a bi*ch Konate being out and I can see why some of you guys are placing Joe or Joel in his stead, but what about Endo, he can play CB, albeit he’s more left sided,

It’s always a gamble team selection, and it seems there aren’t many alternatives in this occasion, but could there be, if we play Endo next to our Captain and bring young Bacjetic in as DM ? ā€œ AW F**k THATā€ I hear you cry, but why the F**k not, it’s a gamble no difference from the norm, it’s only a suggestion as is all of yours,

Going to StJames’s these days is a difficult challenge anyway, mostly is tbf, it probably won’t happen but I wouldn’t mind this……

                          Alisson
            Trent   Endo. Virgil. Robbo
                         Bacjetic
              Macca.              Szlobo
              Salah.    Nunez.    Diaz

Endo could cover for Trent, Trent adds to the mids, the mids can then shunt forward, we’ll have a back three with Bacjetic as holding DM, with Trent Macca & Szlobo creating f***in mayhem, and supplying ammo for Mo Lucho & Nunez, Nooks will have a similar attacking plan, so will we see another 7 goal thriller??

No way will we go there and play defensive, and absolutely no way will the Nooks be conservative, for me it’s like throwing down the gauntlet, who dares f***in wins, so let’s suck it and see !!

A team of our size and resources shouldn't have to be resorting to these patchwork solutions. The fact that Konate is injury prone is nothing new. The club can't say this is a surprise. And even though Fab and Hendo weren't expected to go, a club as well run as ours supposedly is would have contingency plans in place for any type of reasonable scenario (players leaving unexpectedly) affecting the squad.

This transfer window feels like one of the games were we were losing and needed a goal and we left it until the 85th minute before we finally put on a sub and then expected a miracle. Yes, sometimes the miracle happens, but you can't count on that and more often than not you need to make moves early and get a move on.

I suspect Gomez will step in if Konate is out

Will be good to see if he can step and get that form back

It will be good if he can be replaced with a player who does not go missing on a regular basis

      I predict a 3-0 loss.

We're going to start the game the same sleepy way we've been starting them ever since last season (the problem is still not fixed), concede early, but that won't be like playing against Bournemouth at home. Newcastle had the best defensive record in the league along with City last season and are hell to play against especially when you concede first. We're gonna spend the rest of the game trying to get on the front foot, but Newcastle have very competent midfielders who will have the talent to win the ball back, resist our press and put in long diagonals to speedy wingers who will be trying our high line all game long. Robbo in particular will be targeted. If Konate doesn't play and Gomez, who is a good CB but typically needs a game or two to get up to speed after being out of the starting 11, is not on his A game then he also will struggle and we'll end up conceding a second and a third if not more.

I personally think we’re going to go there and get a result - the boys are scoring and they will get chances.

VVD / Alisson masterclass incoming with a brace by Salah.

Mate, I don’t think people realise just how good we can be! Absolutely lethal front 3, with Dom and Mac backing them up - then Trent looking for those pinged balls. I would absolutely hate to play against Liverpool and I’m sure Newcastle are thinking the same thing.

We’ll concede first, then we’ll score just before half time to level it up and Salah will score the winner, maybe a pen, in the second half.

      2-1.
