I wager that for the folks you are referring to, they worry more about how bad we can be than have confidence in how good we can be. I don't think anyone doubts our abilities going forward, it's our abilities going backwards that has people on the edge of their seats.

I don't believe our first 11 matches up to some teams above us. I also don't believe our squad depth matches our competitors.

But sh*t? We're far from it .... but it's vital we can stay relatively injury free.

If Konate doesn't make it Joe must come in.Needs an early solid game. Still for me, a quality defender. When he comes in he often has to cover one side on his tod as Trent goes up on his sorties and that obviously brings extra pressure.

Going with Nunez. Gakpo gets lost a bit in midfield so he could go with Endo, Macca and Dom.

Gomez/Matip can do a job but away to Newcastle given how well they play not the ideal situation. Disappointing for Konate who many (including myself) pin the hopes he main fixture in the lineup.

I would probably go with Gomez for Konate, plug Endo in the middle and keep trio of Diaz/Jota/Salah up top. Feel bad for Gapko but there will be lots of time for him to play up to this season.

Play each game like a cup final, with our strongest squad possible, find some consistency. We should not be far off as title contenders.

there is a valuation that the bean counters place on players so even if Jürgen was desperate for player X they will not spend above that.

Jürgen has a role in as much as giving the final nod of approval he doesn’t negotiate prices. 👍
