Seeing as it's today's opponents, knock yourself out with the best Premier league game ever, then the sequel a year later 😉

      With Villa coming up;

One of the greatest goals by my all-time hero Robbie Fowler.

just enjoyed a Denis Waterman programme on 70's football on youtube. 72/73 was an important year with a influx of new players as Shankly rebuilt his 60's team.
A league title and UEFA cup followed it was the genesis of what was to come.
interestingly Larry Lloyd became the first player to use TV footage to challenge a red card for head butting and he won his appeal. think it was the season UTD finished 18th and then got relegated in 74 oh happy days

I remember expat neutrals in Washington DC going on for weeks about how great that 4-3 game was. First thing I think of whenever I hear the names Collymore or Ferdinand.

Ask most football sypporters about clubs being banned from Europe and LFC will be the name on everyones lips yet it was SPURS who were the first banned followed by Leeds. AT Home Leeds and MAN UTD both faced home game bans one for knife throwing ah the 70's what memories. Walking back across Stanley park after the game was like a battle scene only to be surpassed by the coach windows going in on Priory road.

Good info. Narrative history is not the same as factual history. I'm saving this info in my personal notes.

Robbie hattrick and Collymore being a c**t.

This was one of my first memories resuming my support of LFC after a 6 year absence (Manc success grossed me out in the first EPL season that I stopped watching and became a WWE fan instead).

In the days before the internet, this is how Kopites found out Shanks had resigned.

The kid saying "you're 'avin' me on aren't ya?" is in Liverpool folklore. Genuine heartbreak across his face.

He was like a member of your own family....it was that close what he mean't to all of us.

Nearly 65 years since the great man took charge of our club. And he's still spoken about with love, admiration, passion and respect by Liverpool fans, young and old alike. I think that speaks volumes of what he meant and still means to this club.

I was a long way off being born when he left us in 74 but I still get chills watching his speech from St George's Hall. I'm sure we've all seen it (many, many times) but once more won't hurt.

      Fabulous clip.
I remember my dad getting in from work
Dropping his bag of tools in the hall and announcing this  news to us 3 kids & my mum
I was 8 at the time and my dad was 41
I’ll never forget the look of heartbreak on his face .
