Nearly 65 years since the great man took charge of our club. And he's still spoken about with love, admiration, passion and respect by Liverpool fans, young and old alike. I think that speaks volumes of what he meant and still means to this club.
I was a long way off being born when he left us in 74 but I still get chills watching his speech from St George's Hall. I'm sure we've all seen it (many, many times) but once more won't hurt.

This man reminds me so much of my Granddad, he was exactly the same, he too was a avid socialist and spoke with the same Passion Shanks did, my grand dad drummed it into me how important honesty was and how the working man should try his absolute best at whatever job he had, be the best he would say, be the best at whatever you do, sound familiar ?
He used to bounce me on his knee singing ‘You are my Sunshine ‘ when I was little, as I grew older i learnt so much from him, but sadly he had passed by the time I became a adult, but I do remember him debating with my dad politics and how he would point the same way Shanks did to get his point across,
So when I seen footage of him being interviewed I’d say, that’s my Grandad, and of course footage of him on the St George’s hall steps, always makes me smile,
Incidentally, where I was born and bred isn’t far from Glenbuck, maybe 20 miles or so, that whole area of the West of Scotland is steeped in socialist history, I find it intriguing that other reknowned Scots and in particular football related people are from the same region, Shanks, Stein, Dalglish, Ferguson, Busby, Smith, Wallace, to name but a few…
Shanks obviously for me being top of that particular tree !!
