Nostalgic for a couple of reasons.

1 - remembering the great Bob Paisley.
2 - remember This Is Your Life, one of the shows I really do wish they'd bring back.

A gang of us went down to Wolves in the back of me mate's dad's builder's van. Got picked up outside the Eagle in Page moss.... (no seatbelt laws them days) Big homemade flag covering us. I can remember some of us climbed up one of the corner floodlights with a load of coppers at the bottom trying to get us down....as if.

We won the league that night if I remember right after a 3-1 win?

I had to check out the facts of this because sometimes memories can change somewhat. 1973 UEFA final at Anfield my Dad was working and we couldnt get to the  game but divine intervention came in the shape of torrential rain and an abandoned game after 20 mins or so. We got into the paddock the  following night to see a memorable night and moving closer to our  first ever European trophy.
A year earlier Roger Hunts testimonial was a must see event. 56,000 turned up with thousands locked out side  to see mainly the 65 cup winning side play an England X1 we won 8-6 with Sir Roger scoring a hatrick and Tommy Lawrence scoring a penalty. those early 70's seasons were the foundations of what was to become the all conquering team of the next 15 years.

Nearly 65 years since the great man took charge of our club. And he's still spoken about with love, admiration, passion and respect by Liverpool fans, young and old alike. I think that speaks volumes of what he meant and still means to this club.

I was a long way off being born when he left us in 74 but I still get chills watching his speech from St George's Hall. I'm sure we've all seen it (many, many times) but once more won't hurt.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uc_XSdOLFSU&ab_channel=TheSpionKop

This man reminds me so much of my Granddad, he was exactly the same, he too was a avid socialist and spoke with the same Passion Shanks did, my grand dad drummed it into me how important honesty was and how the working man should try his absolute best at whatever job he had, be the best he would say, be the best at whatever you do,  sound familiar ?

He used to bounce me on his knee singing ‘You are my Sunshine ‘ when I was little, as I grew older i learnt so much from him, but sadly he had passed by the time I became a adult, but I do remember him debating with my dad politics and how he would point the same way Shanks did to get his point across,

So when I seen footage of him being interviewed I’d say, that’s my Grandad, and of course footage of him on the St George’s hall steps, always makes me smile,

Incidentally, where I was born and bred isn’t far from Glenbuck, maybe 20 miles or so, that whole area of the West of Scotland is steeped in socialist history, I find it intriguing that other reknowned Scots and in particular football related people are from the same region, Shanks, Stein, Dalglish, Ferguson, Busby, Smith, Wallace, to name but a few…

Shanks obviously for me being top of that particular tree !!

Should of took a sledge hammer!!

My dad got in, said a few lads by him were trying to demolish the turnstile to get in.

Talking about that game once, my dad said it was unreal the sheer amount of Liverpool fans in Molineux that night.

I was there as well. I hitched a lift up from Swindon. I could write a book about the events of that night. To win the 1st Div with that win was just the icing on the cake.
