Pre Match: Wolves V Liverpool - Sat 16th Sept 12:30
      Sep 12, 2023 03:13:41 pm

Wolves came out the wrong side of a five-goal thriller at Crystal Palace last time out, while Liverpool put speculation about Mo Salah’s future behind them with a 3-0 win over Aston Villa.

What is the head-to-head record like?

The sides first met on 29 Sep 1894 in an old Division 1 clash at Molineux that finished in an exciting 3-2 win for Wolves. Liverpool got their first win on 09 Jan 1897 on a 2-1 scoreline at the same venue.

The teams have met a total of 114 times, with 59 wins for Liverpool against 37 for Wolves and 18 draws so far.

Last season’s games ended with one home win apiece in the league, 3-0 for Wolves and 2-0 for Liverpool. There was also a 2-2 draw in the FAS Cup third round before Liverpool won the replay 1-0.

Virgil is suspended for this match with so many internationals coming back late.

The match is being shown on TNT Sports 1. It is also being streamed live on the TNT Sports Player.

      I would play like this:

      NB: Team no longer available

I would rest Diaz and Nunez if they are not 100% after the internationals. Mac Allister won't be rested.

I am assuming that Trent and Konate are still out with VVD suspended.

Think I’ll hang fire until the International pish is finished, still a risk of a injury kicking us in the Clacker Bag, hypothetically tho……..

      ………….        Alisson
         Trent  Konate Gomez  Robbo
                        Bacjetic
          Macca.                   Szlobo
            Salah     Jota       Diaz

Subs;  Kelleher, Matip, Kostas, Endo, Jones,  Gravenberch, Nunez, Harvey, Gakpo, Doak

………too early I believe for Gravenberch , and I think Bajcetic will get his first outing, pushing Macca forward to a more familiar position, Jota coming back injury free will give him his slot up the middle although I’m tempted to play Nunez there, Mo & Diaz are shoe in starts, hopefully Konate is back and he’ll partner Gomez at the back, I’m loving the headaches having a plethora of choices from midfield gives us, meaning we can be very difficult to read, anyone on the bench should think themselves unlucky not to start, and that’s a very good sign of a very good side emerging ??

Would like to think Ibou would be back for this . I would play Endo with Mac and Dom ,didn't see Curtis Jones in the last U21 game not sure why . Up top tricky one would be happy with any of them . Nunez and Diaz playing long away and not back probably training until Thursday at earliest makes.me think Gakpo will start

Darwin only lasted until half time with muscular issues so must be a doubt for Saturday. Think Gakpo will start . Diaz and Mac also played lots of minutes and factoring in travel and altitude etc may also not start

So now we've got Nunez, Konate and Trent carrying injuries. South american players jet lagged, VVD suspended, and Bajetic only just returning from injury so not match fit. And to add to that, Tierny on VAR.

Looks like the footballing gods are against us again.  A win is gonna be massive come Saturday.  I've still gone for 2 - 0 to the red men though.

Cant wait to get back to real football after the shitfest internationals.

Suspect all of the south americans bar Ali will be subs on saturday...

      Quote
Regardless of the minutes played by each, all four will be involved with their countries on away trips late into Tuesday night or the early hours of Wednesday morning - Mac Allister on duty for Argentina in Bolivia, Nunez with Uruguay in Ecuador, Alisson required by Brazil in Peru and Diaz with Colombia in Chile.

Diaz has the longest trip back to Merseyside of around 7,200 miles. Alisson will travel 6,250 miles while Mac Allister has only a handful of miles fewer. Nunez has the comparatively short distance of 5,600 miles with which to contend.

Not for the first time, Klopp's chief worry will be in what state his South American squad members return to Merseyside. The clock is already ticking.

At this point it's comical that Tierney keeps getting to run VAR for our games. And can I just say I hate the international breaks. You just get in a groove and then have to disrupt the early part of your season. It's ridiculous.

      No idea who will be match fit based on injuries/travels, but would take a punt on;

      Alisson
      Trent   Matip    Gomez    Robbo
      Bajcetic
      Szobozlai   Jones
      Salah    Nunez   Diaz

These early KO after international break always seem to be us, next international break it’s us again with the early game.
Defence is a worry with injuries and Virgil suspension. Anyone know why Quansah pulled out of internationals.

We played this lot so many times last season I got sick of seeing Wolves in our fixture list! Annoyed as thought this was at home having read the OP and since learned it's away. Bollocks 😂

A win here, any kind of win at all, would be a good achievement given the disruption of the international break, injuries, the suspension of Virg and Tierney on VAR. Circumstance seems to have conspired to leave us with quite possibly the same CB pairing as last season (if anyone remembers that shitshow). Make amends please!

Failure to go get a Cb in the window looks like a potential problem going into this one with VVD, Konate and Trent all potentially out.

or we could go 3-4-3, with elliott, jones or Thiago as an extra body in MF.

Not as a starting formation, but it now ends up as a 3 when trent moves into MF.

      Formations are pretty fluid anyway.

Im just wondering for this game with certain players out, he may start with a 3. probably not though. ;D

I liked Gomez on the left of matip last week too, shame to put him back at LB.

Cant wait for this these International breaks are just painful to endure. The lads looked like they were just starting to click last match made Villa look very ordinary. Joel and Joe are fine for me Robbo and Kostas if needs be up front is a different matter after Mo it could be anyone and if Darwin is tired or injured he wont risk him.
Comfortable win for me 3-0 and top of the league.

I love this team mate - can’t wait to see Salah, Jota, Dom, Mac and the boys lead the team out.

Just feels like there are so many chances and goals in this team.

Best manager in the world and we have a fighting chance who ever we play!

Lots of options tbf. in MF & up front anyway.

Back training along with Thiago according to the echo.

Id wager they will both be on bench ?

Cant wait for this these International breaks are just painful to endure. The lads looked like they were just starting to click last match made Villa look very ordinary. Joel and Joe are fine for me Robbo and Kostas if needs be up front is a different matter after Mo it could be anyone and if Darwin is tired or injured he wont risk him.
Comfortable win for me 3-0 and top of the league.

Aye was bad timing this international break.

There all bad timings Brezi mate, especially when they mean absolutely F**k all, in those sort of games I’d be telling my players to pull out(as the Nun said to the vicar😁), why risk injury to key players in meaningless friendly internationals?
It’s the ideal situation to try new blood rather than using the same old same old already knowing their capabilities,
Clubs pay the wages but also pay the price if players get injured in a pointless match!!

Well most games were qualifiers this window, so not pointless.

But the England scotland game was a friendly, so could have rotated more as you say.

And I did notice a few other friendlies for other countries.

This is why I like the nations league, its better than friendlies, actually means something.

I Apologies in advance if some of the woke brigade, yogurt knitters and bed Wetters get upset !!……

Yeah, Scotland V England was only a excuse to boo ‘A’ national anthem, but who’s national anthem?

It seems England has taken GSTK as their National anthem, and at the same time inadvertently driven yet another wedge in the so called Union we are all supposed to exist under, I’m glad it was Boo’d, I’m not a Royalist,  I give as many fucks about them as they give about me, so why the F**k should I sing that god awful ditty that is racist against my nation,

Also, for years N years Engurland fans have Boo’d every country’s national anthem whenever they have played them, but absolutely F**k all is ever mentioned about that, dunno about you Brezi mate, but the sooner we have our independence the better, it’s becoming abundantly clear, if it wasn’t already, that the United Kingdom is no longer United, but our wonderful fuckpigs in parliament still deny our right to be independent so as they can continue to steal the revenue from Scots industries, I could carry on but I fear mods would remove this post for non football related rants…..

So Mods, I apologise and consider this particular rant over…..thank you!!

Trent out then. Konate in training the last 2 days. I assume he trained today as well so gomez to right back with konate matip and robbo.

I'd start Macca ... bench Diaz with Jota coming in , Gapko through the middle and Mo in his usual place.

We need to win this match. Best available side ... go top and see how the rest of the weekend pans out.

      Robbo, Matip, Konate, Gomez

Or could got with a back three of

If Konate is fit then the backlinepicks itself. Feel that despite being away on international duty that Mac Allister will start with Dom/Endo with Jota/Gapko/Salah up top.

Wolves has been as bad as advertised this season but after international breaks tend to be difficult fixtures.

I think when he originally came into the team I seem to remember him being at left back. Think I may have been at the Emirates for arsenal away which I think ended 0-0.

      I would play like this:

      NB: Team no longer available

I would rest Diaz and Nunez if they are not 100% after the internationals. Mac Allister won't be rested.

I am assuming that Trent and Konate are still out with VVD suspended.

I would still go with my line-up.

Yeah I know and last year we had Calvin Ramsay.

Don't think it would hurt for a team with top ambitions to have real right back cover there rather than shuffling everything about all the time.

We have it at left back with Kostas. Hes dependable enougb and didnt cost the earth. Would just make life easier.

I had alot of back issues in my early 20s and I was alot fitter then. 45 now and fat and had no back issues for 15 years. Hope he's fit soon as he seemed to do well on loan last season and maybe he can get some games in the league Cup and europa league.

bit of a downer last season we lost 5 out of 6 early starts so a good time to sort that out today. Still think we will have too much a long as the FA dont F**k us over again.

Think we’re gonna miss Trent’s passing range today.
No doubt we’ll substitute that with another Klopp master class.

Nothing suggesting I should change my prediction of 0:4 so I won’t. 😂

Under the circs the back 4 of Joe..Matip..Iby..Robbo looks obvious. Further up..Dom, Macca and Joe Bloggs. Even further up..Mo..Jota..Diaz.

Hold Nunez back and unleash him in the second half.
