I don’t think there is any cons with TAA

With Mo and VVD there is always going to be the question mark because of their age

I don’t see it being an issue with Mo , if he signs for an extra two years then I think his level will stay consistent

VVD will be 34 , that’s going to be a bit of a question mark and there will be some doubts but I hope he also gets a couple more years

But you're missing the point. Which is that even if Mo n Virg did decline  there would still be interested clubs wanting them if we decided to sell. So we would get money for them (a la Fab n Hendo), as long as we hadn't given them too good a deal. While we don't get any money for them if their contracts run out.  So I can't think of any pro of letting the latter happen. Can you?

If not, then the question is how much should we offer them, and when.

On the how much, I don't really know. On the when, again I can't think of any advantage to leaving it til after the window's shut. Maybe there is some advantage - the people running the club don't seem stupid and must have their reasons. I just can't think what they are.

I don’t see clubs paying any significant transfer fee for either player if there is any level of decline-

We had a chance to get £150mil for Mo last summer - that’s gone now

We aren’t going to getting any transfer fees for either Mo or VVD now , even if they sign extensions

Isn’t Salah on like 350K a week? Any extension probably includes a raise, so if he were to decline he’d basically become unmovable.

If Mo would have cost £150m last summer I'm sure he could still command a worthwhile fee from the Saudis in the next year or two. Even full on walking stick old man Fabinho was attractive to a team in that league. Mitrovic is like Haaland over there, so it's all relative. There's also the Arab factor of course.

I'm not as anti you as a poster as some on here but saying that we wouldn't get a transfer fee for Mo Salah is one of the most ridiculous things anybody's ever said on here.

And obviously Virgil would still command a fee too, just not as big a one.

      This is patently false.

Fabinho was 29 with 3 years left on his contract

      Mitrovic was 28

He also arrived during the big initial splurge of players

If Mo signs an extension it’s prob going to be around 2 years ,I don’t see the club selling him in the next two summers or someone paying for a 34/35 year old

So if he did go to Saudi it would be on a free at the end of the contract

VVD - the same just a year older

It’s basic football economics, they will be good value for someone on a free , but no one will pay any significant level of fee for them

Both players are in the twilight of their careers now

Which is what we effectively have first refusal over. We can just retain them.

      We can easily retain them

Would also hope to see them also be looking at replacements as well

Ronaldo fee of 117m when he was 34, 17 million three years later at 37. Salah is very close to Ronaldo in terms of quality at the same age (if not equal). He would still command a very decent fee.

Given the amount of wages freed up it would make sense to offer them 2 year deals.
If they leave beyond that then the club has got their best years anyway
and it gives time to get the right players in before they leave.

Trent needs a long term deal.

As it stands, with all the players that have left over the last two summers,
they are the three highest earners at the club.

I can see Trent getting a deal to match what VVD gets

And then VVD and Mo getting extensions at very little pay rise if any

no where near Ronaldo in terms of the money he makes the club in purely just being there

Yep. Effectively 3 more seasons including this one. Everyone is well catered for in this scenario.

The money this club pi*sed away on chamberlain, thiago and keita every week ... about 28m a year on those 3 you'd think they would learn.

220k a week better off having 'lost' tiago. Give Mo a 50k payrise, same for Virg and plenty  left over to increase Trent's compensation.

Very odd leaving a priority 3 months away from being able to have discussions with other clubs

It’s going be tough keeping them I feel, someone like Trent will be offered 20m signing on fee at other clubs imo salah maybe the same

Let’s hope it all works out

Absolute stupidity mixed with sheer arrogance. If they're allowed to leave on a free, Hughes needs to be sacked.

The longer this is left, the less likely it is they'll stay because the thought of leaving and essentially picking any destination they want will circulate more and more in their mind.
