Anything can happen in a 2 year loan and if he doesn't carry on hitting the heights he did at the euros then you're stuck with a player you paid 30-35m for 2 years ago and no longer want. What if a few keepers suddenly prove themselves in those 2 years and snapped up by other clubs?

There will always be a suitable replacement out there whether it be this year, next or the year Ali's contract is up. Why haven't we done this with Robbo? Or Mo? Or Virg? Why didn't we do it in the past with Hendo? or Gini? or Coutinho?

Keeper is a really tricky position to recruit though.

In 2018 we took the best keeper available and 6 years later Chelsea still haven’t nailed that position down when they spent a similar amount to us that summer.

United moving on from De Gea hasn’t gone well and I’d say keeper is one of Arsenals weak spots too and they haven’t done a great job moving on from Cech.
