11 stats to know ahead of Liverpool's clash with Brentford

The Reds will contest their first competitive Anfield fixture of 2024-25, with Thomas Frank’s Bees the opponents in a 4.30pm BST kick-off on Sunday.

Read on for some early Opta facts and figures to know about the encounter…

Liverpool have won each of their last five home games against Brentford, keeping a clean sheet each time.

The Reds haven’t lost their opening home fixture in any of the last 20 league campaigns (15 wins, five draws), winning 10 of their last 11.

Virgil van Dijk has won 81 of his 99 Premier League games for Liverpool at Anfield (16 draws, two losses). If the Dutchman features and the Reds avoid defeat in this game, it will be the fewest defeats a player has suffered in their first 100 Premier League home appearances with a specific club.

Arne Slot won his first Premier League game in charge of Liverpool last weekend against Ipswich Town, with Graeme Souness in April 1991 the last Reds boss to win his opening two league games.

Liverpool had 50 touches in the opposition box against Ipswich, the most in a boss’ first ever game in charge in the Premier League that Opta has on record since 2008-09.

Brentford have won four of their last seven Premier League matches (one draw, two defeats), more than in their previous 21 games combined (three wins, four draws, 14 losses).

The Bees have lost just one of their previous six Premier League away games in the month of August (one win, four draws), with that sole defeat coming at Fulham in 2022.

Mohamed Salah has 127 goal contributions in 127 Premier League appearances for Liverpool at Anfield (92 goals, 35 assists).

The Egyptian has six goal involvements against Brentford in the competition (five goals, one assist).

Yoane Wissa has scored and assisted in each of his last three Premier League appearances for Brentford, the first player to achieve that for any club since Riyad Mahrez in December 2021 for Manchester City. No player in Premier League history has scored and assisted in four consecutive appearances.

The visitors’ Bryan Mbeumo has 16 goal involvements in his last 18 away Premier League appearances (nine goals, seven assists).

I would try Nunez on the left. Diaz is not clinical enough and maybe Nunez's brain clicks into place. I know that my selection is controversial, no need to cyber bully ;)

Think whilst only one game per week we have to use Ibou more and being at home allowing Trent more freedom . Bit harsh on Quansah but Slot has shown not averse to making tough calls already

      Konate for me.

Totally agree srslfc, it is not a sentimental game. Quansah will have his chance, it is super long season but not this weekend with one match per week.

I think the team will be the same team that started the 2nd half at Ipswich, but it wouldn't surprise me if Kostas came into the XI, at this moment in time he looks far fitter than Robbo.

Be a great boost for us if Toney's still out like.

Listening to slot it looks like Quansah is a slight doubt Gomez is expected to be in the squad

Obviously its not a sentimental game but it would also be good to see is he capable of putting last week behind him and respond by playing out of his skin.......if his next chance is league cup v port vale we wont know if he has that in him

Let's register a win, with our first home game of the season. A 3  1 victory to the Reds, Mo Salah scoring, maybe Jota also on the scoresheet, plus Nunez also finding the net.

Anyhow a win for the Reds.

Strongest 11 available while we bed in the new system and try to create some rythm.
But does Arne really know what his strongest 11 is yet 🤷‍♂️
Last weeks second half 11 done well. Maybe we start with them, maybe he gives the likes of Nunez and Joe a start, who knows ?

Think Slot will stick to the 11 that beat Ipswich in the second half. Talk of playing Nunez on the left in place of Diaz. Maybe given a go after 60 or so depending on how it goes.

Can't see Gomez being allowed to leave this window especially given this news

Hope you're right because Konate is always doubtful, Quansah has a little injury, Gomez might leave therefore it leave us with Philips as the only back-up.

A lot of Klopp’s success was down to making Anfield a fortress again so let’s start as we mean to go on tomorrow.

Konate for Quansah the only change for me. I don’t think we will see much rotation until the CL starts.

Lets see if Slot plays more centrally, between the lines. Drawing players in so as to create space on the overlap. Carra was on about it after Ipswich. Diaz might play close to Jota creating space for Robbo to exploit. Mo does play more central at times but is mostly out wide right.

Trent playing high or inverted does leave gaps and Alisson saved us numerous times in one on one situations. Will playing more centrally help prevent that ?

See no reason to change a winning side, game day 2 so let’s keep it going, build that momentum, the confidence that winning brings, I think we are a bit of a dark horse this season, no one expects us to be in the mix, especially that fat Manc Cnut Keith, he thinks we’ll fall like a fat Manc on a seesaw, but we’re not going to are we lads & Ladettes ? And who the F**k care what he thinks, Brighton 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Can’t see the Bees stinging us at any time Ivan Toney or not, and if we start like we did in last weeks second half I can smell a proper battering on the cards, Brentford are decent and can throw themselves around a bit but their no match to us, even in our infancy under Arne, like every league game this is a must win, to keep up with the Cheats and the Goons, we got the MUtants next week so let’s carry that winning momentum to that f***in toilet !!

However, you’ll always get some dick head saying difficult game like they did last week when you couldn’t have picked an easier away game on paper. Oh those tints frequent this site all too often. 😎😂  Have you got the pattern on them Billy as you wear them more than most apart from London Red. 😂😂😂😂 maybe you share it.  :lmao:

Hadn’t put you down as some fickle wankstain but then when you spend most of yer time in mediocrity I’m guessing it’s what you evolve into, in case you have forgotten tw*t face its a 38 game season and we all have to play each team twice, so it matters not a f***in jot when or where each fixture is played first, we do however have another easy fixture next week so I’m guessing by you’re logic that will be three on the bounce 😜 🖕🖕🏿🖕🖕🏿🖕🖕🏿

We all have our own definition of what is easy....and I go along with the view that there are no easy games in the premier league. Of course that doesn't mean they are all equally as difficult, and a home fixture against Brentford shouldn't be a big a challenge as home to Arsenal, City, Spurs, etc.
...and securing all 3 points won't be easy. Brentford have some effective attacking players in Wissa and Mbeumo and of course Toney if selected.
Carvalho and Van den Berg might also be out to prove a point against us. That all said we are a stronger squad in all areas and if we put in the required effort across the whole 90+ minutes we should secure the win.
