We haven't rebuilt the midfield. We are one short, ideally an athlete, and have been since we failed to bring one in last summer. It's been midfield where we have looked goosed as that same small group of 4 have been sharing the load of 3 places all season (with late minutes from Endo). The gulf in energy and athleticism from the PSG midfield to ours was stark.

It's quite incredible we are where we are in the league (thanks largely to Salah from an attacking perspective), as we are (to quote Carragher who is right on this) a 'work in progress'.

The Klopp side that won the CL and the league, they would wipe the floor with this one. Both full backs in their attacking pomp, the midfield strangling the life out of the opposition, and a world class front three with Mo also in his physical prime.

When he is on song Diaz is the only attacker who is close to the level of Mo, Mane, Firmino.

We cannot judge Chiesa as he simply hasn't been given a fair crack. He was talked up before the Plymouth game, but for some reason that game (when the whole team was sh*te with two children in midfield) has ended Slot's interest in him. Slot got it wrong with Endo and Harvey and started belatedly using them. Unless there is some clause or something we are not aware of, Chiesa is being badly mistreated. Jota has been sh*te yet still gets a game. And Jota unlike Chiesa has never been elite.

It just doesn't make sense. Have a feeling that if Chiesa ever does get a proper chance (start and alongside first teamers) he will impress and make Slot look ridiculous.

      Hyperbolic sh*te after a defeat.

Fab, Hendo and Gini better than Mac, Grav and Dom get to F**k.

I can only think everyone thought he’d be a clever buy but Slot took one look at him in training and said nah.

Or he's loath to take off the best player in the team or even move him from his favourite position.

Listen Chiesa was a punt, no doubt about that, but his best position happens to be the position of the best player in the side and many people's on here's shout for Ballon d'Or.

      Could not agree more.

Chiesa is also quite possibly our only truly rapid winger at the moment, and I do believe we very, very badly lack pace on the break.

At what point during his Liverpool career when he has appeared has he looked rapid?

Same thing Slort is seeing plus what he see's in training, but obviously knows F**k all.

Thought he (along with Harvey) were our shining lights when they came on.

Really hope we see more of them between now and May, but knowing Arne.........

Hopefully he's done what Endo did and made Slot have to start considering him from now on.

Can't fault him, not been given a sniff but still gives a 110% when called upon and for me has never failed to impress baring a game with a bunch of kids.

He has played well in every game he has come on, including the 90 minutes at PSV when he was our best player. Very lively and full of energy, and a direct goal threat.

Unfortunately he was booted from playing contention after a solitary game at Plymouth when none of the fowards played well in front of a midfield made up of two children. It's a game that didn't do Mr anonymous Jota any harm though.

I cannot ever recall a player being treated as badly.

Been a tough season for Chiesa, and even when he got some chances, he looked off it, but not today.
Could he actually have a part to play in the run in..
Won't be many of our lads feeling too good about their games today, but he will be one.
      Well done !

Was beginning to think I was going mad in being the only one on here saying this.

What is also frustrating is none of the media, until the last press conference, has asked the manager about Chiesa.

Maybe that question made him aware of his existence?

Wasn’t Chiesa carrying an injury when we bought him & he had a set back in training..?

He was never going to dislodge Mo but he should have taken Zthe role as a CF, Jota shouldn’t be starting for us again.,

Use him as a CF..he can create space & put in a clever ball..

I think there's something to do with his contract going on here, it can't be performance related surely.

Doubtful it will change anything but he did well today. You could see his intensity and desire to want to make things happen. I was surprised when he scored as I thought it was Nunez who had been put through, expecting therefore a shot straight at the keeper. Who was this strange composed figure up top??

Tbh it's only in last few weeks, with Mo being quieter, Gapko having been out and now looking off it, Nunez being Nunez, Jota being poor, Diaz, Elliot etc, that just with those guys form, that would just bring a Chiesa more into the frame.  The times he's played since season start, didn't really think he was a better option that what we had, today was really the first time thought, yeah, he's a proper option now when compared to the others.

He has been fit and available in every game since Plymouth. Not seen until today.

No matter how we try to slice it, it's shocking mistreatment. Especially so when you see what the others besides Mo (and to an extent Gakpo) have been contributing.

Jota and Chiesa, the contrast between the two players is stark. Jota is a good solid finisher, but that's the only real quality he has hence he is so often anonymous in games unless he is getting on the end of things. Chiesa is never anonymous. Our threat went up a level when he came on.

Absolutely this. Expected to work miracles when he has the likes of Mabaya and Mcconnell beside him......I mean come on. Arne please give Fede a fair crack at the whip.

Did think of Litmanen when I was thinking of players who had been mistreated. Do recall though that Jari missed a few games with injury.

Plus we have to remember Houllier was a conservative manager. Flair players were not his forte (Ginola giving the ball away and Bulgaria going up the other end to score in the last minute and put France out of qualifying for the '94 World Cup may have influenced that one).

Slot has no such excuses with Chiesa. That Plymouth game which was desperately used by some on here in their attempt to justify his non selection by Slot, yet Jota too played in that game and did F**k all yet never mind getting some minutes in games (unlike Chiesa) he gets bleedin starts.

      Chiesa. Never anonymous.
      Jota. Constantly anonymous.

      Make it make sense.

Class player and would like to see him here next season but maybe there is some good reason why not. Be interesting to see if he gets some decent game time for the rest of the season. Hope so.

As basically the 6th option up front i did not expect him to naturally get a lot of playing time, but given what he has done in his limited time and the current form of basically everyone up front, i would have thought Slot would give him more of a chance.

When you say "6th option", you are implying there are five ahead of him?

I know we have seen so little of him as he has been, to quote the article below, "criminally underused", but he is the only forward at the club, after Mo, who has world class pedigree.

      https://www.thisisanfield.com/2025/03/federico-chiesa-shows-hes-criminally-underused-as-fans-question-arne-slot/

He did more in that 20 minutes than Jota did in the last 3 games, all of which inexplicably saw him start and end 2 trophies chances.

Given actual minutes and not the pisstake he has received so far, being of world class pedigree he becomes our 2nd option.
