9-24th progress to a play off round to decide the other 8 teams.

Sounds dumb will watch the games for what they are but the concept on the face of it is terrible.

1-8 place get a bye to Round of 16 ( will be seeded and home 2nd leg vs winners of Round of 32)

9-24 place start in Round of 32 (9-16th will be seeded and home in 2nd leg)

25th and lower are eliminated , no drop to Europa

I think its a single league of 36, but the rest is correct yes. So 24 of 36 go to knockout.

Guess the real goal in the group is Top 8

32 teams in one table, 9th-24th will qualify for a play off of two legs to reach the last 16 where the top 8 in the table will qualify immediately.

The difference between 8th place and 24th are just two matches.

To be top 8 yes, but we should be fine to come 24th haha.

The only good thing I would say are the perceived difficult games are at anfield

I can't see us in top 8 because the other top seeders have a weaker fixtures but we will qualify.

What do you think of the new Europa League format mate?

Pretty shitty draw for us compared to the other English teams. Will be tough to finish Top8 but you have to be confident about a 9th to 16th finish and 2nd leg at home in the round before. AS London says above, our toughest games are mostly at Anfield. I'm glad we've drawn Madrid.

Issue is ranking 36 teams who play just 8 games means a lot of teams will all be bunched together. Might be goal difference that decides a lot of the places.

Yh cant rule that out , however I don’t imagine there will be any easy teams, when you look at our draw it’s actually quite favourable, some big guns in there so suits us to a tee, looking forward RM & Leverkusen especially!!

Yeah, I think thats the purpose , try to make every game mean something. Of course 3-4 teams could be clinched in Top 8 by the last 2 games, but with only 8 games to be played the points gaps should be close.  Even between like 5th and 12th.

The mid-table could be crazy final few games 8th to 20th could only be 4-5 points difference. 

Should be interesting.  Cant wait for the fixture list to come out, could be some very interesting ties every gameday.
