Barnes didnā€™t do the business in Europe, thatā€™s the only downside to Barnsey.

      *couldn't.

Through no fault of his own btw.

Salah could dribble at his peak (can't now by the way) but even at his peak bar the odd special goal he was nowhere near Barnes level.

Salah is levels above barnes in every aspect. Goals, assists, influence, versatility, longevity, consistency. Its a different game these days obviously and its hard to compare different times.

Barnsey had a couple of great seasons 87/88 and 88/89 ... but after his achilies he was never the same.

Salah has been at a consistent world class level for what 7/8 seasons now?

Both greats but Salah is above barnes for me.

So, a nine-month ban from all football, plus a criminal conviction, has the same equivalence as a five-match ban from international matches (i.e. a ban that affects his club in so way whatsoever)?

He did what Nunez did a couple of months back, standing up for his family.

He didnā€™t sh*t on his fans, didnā€™t sh*t on KK, didnā€™t orchestrate a move, didnā€™t bite players, need I go on? You carry on defending the indefensible la 🤦ā€ā™‚ļø😎🤦ā€ā™‚ļø

Yea but I think what Don is saying is Salah has had a mor prolonged impact.

Where Salah sits is a difficult one for us as we've had so many great players over the years.

For me he's top five but I couldn't place him exactly where just as of yet.

Iā€™m not defending what Cantona did, he served his punishment. You  making comparableā€™s is laughable.  If you want to defend a snake you do it, many of your own fans will disagree who rightly class KK one of the best if not the best and your happy to have him as a legend after what he did is your call, a very embarrassing one at that.

I'm not saying that Suarez didn't let LFC down, of course he did ... what I'm saying is that Cantona did the same with United (Ferguson wanted to sack Cantona initially after Selhurst Park, it was only because of United's lawyers that he wasn't sacked). Suarez and Cantona were both brilliant footballers whose conduct massively let both clubs down on occasions

The whole 'trying to leave' argument is flawed. Cantona played for United in a time where players had nowhere near the levels of sway that they held when Suarez played for us: Bosman was in 1995 (same year as Selhurst) so saying that Cantona didn't try to leave but Suarez did is, well, comparing apples with pears: player-power was in its infancy back then.

At the end of the day, the thread is asking about top Liverpool players ... it's not asking who was the politest LFC player, or who was the best-behaved LFC player. If you're going to leave out Suarez because of how he behaved then it would be hypocritical to not do the same for Cantona when asnwering the same question for United.

'Obviously' doing a lot of heavy-lifting there!

I wasn't talking about their performance over time - I said 'peak' Salah Vs 'peak' JB.

Digger played for us for a decade - played over 300 games - even in his last season for us in 96/97 he played over 40 games

He managed to reinvent himself from a winger to a sitting midfielder

He was unplayable - would take digger over Mo
