All were away on international duty as well.i think. Didn't have a problem with the line up. Just played poorly.

I think tactically forest out done us as that had the biggest impact, slowly the players became more and more desperate as we couldn’t create much

I always feel we need to force teams to make mistakes and that done with speed of play imo

Also I don’t think slot would have been happy with Nunez and his performance

Got a feeling is a long road back for him if jota remains fit

Don't think he was worse than anyone else bar Grav and Ali to be fair. He may be expected to come on and make a massive impact, but with the interplay and service all round, you couldn't expect much even if you put Messi on. We were just that poor.

Oh aye, because Jota really done the business yesterday. Tremendous performance again by him just like against Utd, his ability to completely mark himself out the game is impressive it has to be said.

Slot only needs to look at himself, 1) the lack of rotation and 2) the kamikaze subs.

Nunez was no different than Jota or any of the other forwards on show

His impact from the bench most of the time isn’t the best bar the Newcastle game

Think he and Gakpo will start against Milan

Was crying out for someone to take the game by the scruff of the neck,  doesn't mean 50 yard crossfield passes or 30 yard thunderbolts but stuff like carrying the ball to try to commit them or pull them out of position. Got a bit narrow. was the sort of game where Harvey did really well last season

And Endo - the game was perfect for him

Really don’t think the manager likes that type of player which makes it even more stranger he was kept but I agree, the game required him and we do going forward

Would love to see a grav-endo-Mac midfield at times

My point about Nunez was he lot the ball so many times and I think countered and scored from that too

Genuinely think he doesn’t like the Trent type either eg playing long direct balls

This season will defo be interesting but I do feel we’re missing a trick not using our full backs by the byline against the lesser teams

I agree. I read Slots remarks that said he basically plays with a small team. I dunno if that will work in the premier league / UEFA. We have a ton of games.coming, and yesterday he got it wrong in hindsight. He played guys who played a ton over the week they were gone.

One of the biggest issues with Arteta is flogging his players to death but playing the same core week in week out

Slot needs to use the whole of his squad - the season is too long - the players are good enough

I honestly don’t think we played poorly. Didn’t quite have the tenacity that we did at United and couldn’t conjure up that little bit of class to finish but overall I was expecting us to get a couple goals. Was very surprised (and frustrated) that we didn’t. That said, it is so typical of us to follow up a great game against a rival with a lackluster outcome against a sh*t, bus parking, counter attacking bunch.

That coupled with the stupid F***ing international break. I’m so over that bullshit. Certainly never seems to help us and almost always has a negative effect. That said, our rivals seemed to manage it well enough. Maybe the boys were believing a little too much of their own hype after the first three games, thinking it was going to be easy. Who knows. Personally not going to dwell on this loss, no use in it. They should play much better next time out.

The issue yesterday was they couldn’t even do the basics rights , simple 5 yard passes weren’t finding their target , wide players taking on players and being pickpocketed with ease

It was hard to see anything that was working yesterday beyond Gravenburch

McAllister was bullied very easily by Yates

Jota and Mo just looked like they were running in concrete

Think Nunez and Gakpo should have started yesterday and maybe Quansah and Endo - there was no energy at all
Didn't watch the game, but what you're describing sounds a lot, to me, like the 1st half of the game against Ipswich. This prompted Arne to tell them there's no use for tactics unless we start winning our duels because we were being bullied all over the pitch...all half long.

Yeah it’s fair to say we were bullied all over the pitch

Their full backs gave nothing to the wide players

And when we did have possession it wasn’t really threatening

Slot emphasised that we didn't make our possession pay. Shoddy misplaced passes when we were bearing down on them. Did that a lot last season. Get the drop on teams then hold on to it too long or play the wrong player in.

Also said our press was bypassed by the long ball. Then when we won back possession in was deep in our own half, they were then well organised and we found it difficult building up pressure.

We will need to work harder, much harder to break teams down and we need the big players to step up. Too many were off blob. Subs also looked as if they weren't fully prepared mentally. Got to come on with a real determined attitude, buzzing but they were flat.

Need a performance in Milan that's for sure.

Anyone highlighting "The International break" as somehow (even mildly) responsible for how we played is delusional.
