      Pre-Match: Liverpool v Chelsea - Premier League 20 Oct 2024 16:30 BST
      Oct 18, 2024 11:32:35 am
International break over.  Onto Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

Chelsea looking much better than last year.  Scored more goals than us, although also conceded more.  Like us, only lost once this season and they are four points behind us as they have had two draws.

Most likely Slot's toughest opponent so far into his Liverpool job.

Alisson still out.  Slot said some fitness concerns over Mac Allister, Endo and Tsimikas.

Not worried in the slightest about Chelsea, who look more like a one man team this season than last.

They weren't very good against Palace, pretty abject against Bournemouth for 80mins, couldn't lay a glove on City and struggled to find a winner against 10 man Forest despite having about an hours stoppage time.

Sure they've thumped sides like Wolves, Gent and Barrow which is great an' all.......but we're a different animal, they'll find that out in a few days.

Biggest test for Slot so far.

As JD said above they're a much better outfit this season so this will tell us a lot more about where we are this season

I'd be pretty confident on this with if it weren't for the international break. We always seem to be sluggish afterwards. Hopefully the boys are back and focused.

Maresca seems to have steadied the ship there and even instilled abit of togetherness with that huge squad that wasnt there previously. I remember him as a player and they are very much a team in his image. Palmar is obviously the one to watch as he is in electric form. If we nullify him we will be well down the road to 3 points.

Its our biggest test so far this season and home advantage will be a great help so hopefully the crowd is in good voice.

Sadly missing Ali for a while but hopefully no other concerns. Although Arne said today there are quite a few issues with those returning from internationsls. We played really well against these here last season in a 4-1 win and Bradley was the star of the show and motm.

Mac not in training, could be that heā€™s fine and theyā€™re managing him, but letting him go on international duty was unbelievably stupid. Heā€™d been managing this issue for a month, was the perfect opportunity to let him rest for 2 weeks.

I'm not sure if it's fair to say Chelsea are 'much better' than last year. Yes compared to the start but Poch had them going the right way anyway and I'm not sure they are much better than the last couple of months of last season.

That being said it's clearly the toughest game we've faced so far and it'll be interesting to see how we fair. I'm encouraged with how we've started but the honest truth is we've not played well for more than a 30-40 min stretch this season and if that doesn't change in the next block of games we'll get found out.

No doubt they will be "really up "to for this. We have to be even more "up". If we are then we beat them. No thinking we only have to turn up mentality.

Many saying Slot hasnā€™t been really tested, we havenā€™t played the dangerous teams so far. I guess they are dangerous and have a strong squad? If these sayings are correct, then itā€™s time for Slot to prove himself.

I am not saying Slot hasnā€™t proven himself. I believe every match and three points are difficult and give him credit for bagging every point so far. Well done till this juncture. It was a great run. Please carry on.

United away is harder than Chelsea at home. Obviously Chelsea are a top 6 candidates despite my earlier barbs. First 20 odd minutes could map out the rest of the game.

Currently 4th. Last season earned themselves a spot in the dreaded Conference League.

We can win this if we go hard at it from the off. They will be up for it without doubt. Theyā€™ll be coming to win it. We just have to cut out the sloppy starts which are slowly creeping back in after a decent start to the season. Theyā€™ve got a couple of players who could hurt us. We just donā€™t need to give them the opportunity to do so.

100% concentration from the first whistle, and we win this 👍

Mac Allister is not 100% fit. He's playing on an ongoing slighty injury. Endo was sick.

I would start with the normal back 4 and Gravenberch, Dominik S and Jones. I prefer players who are fit rather have players not fully fit.

      Salah, Jota and Diaz.

100%...If we put in the maximum effort I think we win. It's fair to say we've already given numerous opportunities for the opposition to hurt us this season, yet through a degree of good fortune (and some poor finishing) we've come through it remarkably unscathed. Chelsea will get chances...all teams do, so I expect Kelleher will play a big part tomorrow; and although they are (broadly speaking) the same squad as last term, they are vastly improved.

As i said further up, hes got them more together and more resilient. Its gone beyond new manager bounce now. Hes getting more out of them than poch did.

I know we can beat them. We were superb in this fixture last season. Mac absolutely ran the show in midfield. Hopefully he is available and then id rest him midweek.

Arsenal lost 2-0. Down to 10 men but if Arsenal want to overcome City they have to get something out of these games, even going down to 10 but they were average from the off.

Far too much negativity on these boards for me, for sure itā€™s a test Vs these but theyā€™ll be more worried about us,

Ppl saying theyā€™re better than last season, well yeah thatā€™s true but arenā€™t we better also?
No game is a walk in the park whoever we play, weā€™ll have to be up for it regardless of who the opposition is, every team tests us even if this lot who may or not prove to be a sterner test, weā€™ll still have to work extremely hard to win it,

Hopefully Macca is fit enough to play, and other than Ali itā€™s the same X1 for me, however I would be tempted to start Gakpo ahead of Diaz for a hour and then release Diaz to run at tiring legs for 35+mins,

Kelleher, Trent, Konate, Virgil ,Robbo , Szloboslai, Gravenberch, Macca/Jones, Gackpo, Salah, Jota,

There are no easy games in this league we should all recognise that by now, Arne will have done his due diligence on them and will have a plan, heā€™s very astute and will have a way of getting over this particular hurdle,
I can see us using the tried & tested Liverpool groove and pass the Chavvy plastic kunts to death, a slower more deliberate approach, With lots of patience and waiting for the right moment kinda deal ,

Not easy of course but canā€™t see us losing to them, a draw would flatter them imho,

      3-1 Mighty Redmen

Chelsea transfer strategy seems to finally be paying off. The question for them now is has it turned them into flat track bullies or can they mix it with the best teams in the league?

      We will soon know

If MacAllister isn't for enough then Jones Gravenberch and Szoboszlai.

      Kelleher

      Trent     Konate     Virgil     Robertson

      Gravenberch      Jones

      Salah      Szoboszlai      Diaz

I will concede that Maresca has them playing with more discipline and a more coordinated attack. He did well at Leicester obviously but this is a serious test for him. He's the 5th since they foolishly decided Tuchel wasn't good enough.

Transfer policy has been spend big and hope for the best but they have stumbled on a decent first 11, lets see if it stands up to Anfield scrutiny.

I have been one of Curtis's biggest fans and at his best alongside Grav and Szobo they could be formidable but he isn't a prospect anymore he has to now step up and I think he will.

The under investment will bite us soon but thatā€™s in a few games time imo
